Insider build to RTM = Genuine version?

Hi, I hope I've posted this in the right section.

I built a pc some months ago with old components for my kids to use. I joined the Insider Program back when the builds were 9xxx (can't remember which one exactly) and installed this on a blank HDD with a view to buying Win 10 when it was released.

However, now that July 29th has come and gone, I appear to have an activated version of Win 10 Pro (when I go into Settings, Update & Security, Activation it says Version Windows 10 Pro, Windows is activated). Does this mean that I have a genuine full version?

I have an ssd which I was going to put the full retail version on had I bought it, but now that it seems as though I have a genuine version, can I transfer that to the ssd (other components will remain unchanged)?

Finally, if I do in fact have a full genuine version, does this now mean that I can opt out of the Insider Program? Since it is for my kids, I would like to keep it stable!

If you had a fully activated build(10240) you have the RTM/GA version that came out on the 29th.

Hi Jeff, thanks for the prompt response! Do you mean yes I can transfer it to the ssd, or yes I can opt out of the Insider Program?

Yes on the opt out. If you want to transfer you would have to install Wn7Sp1 or Win8.1 and upgrade from there. You could use this: Windows 10 - Upgrade Installation - Windows 10 Forums. Step 3.. using the media creation tool. You would have to upgrade over an activated 7 or 8.1 for it to activate and then you can do a clean instillation.

OK thanks Jeff, I thought it might be too good to be true. I was hoping to transfer it to an ssd as the hdd is already 10 years old. Thanks again!

It is not simple, as it should be, to transfer Windows 10 yet. The only transfer path seems to be to install an upgradeable OS (Windows 7 or 8.x) that has been licensed and activated, then to upgrade it to Windows 10.

If you opt out of the insider program, the activation on the prerelease versions up to 10240
will eventually come to an end in October 2015, as far as I understand. If you choose to do nothing, there will be further builds available on the insider program before then.

There still appears to be little said about the ultimate fate of activated insider builds that have been upgraded to full retail versions, and have retained activation. Because they have no genuine retail ancestor, they are not transferable by upgrade, so are tied to the original, but it was said that cloned images were transferable, I think, about a month back.

if I understand it all correctly , if you didn't upgrade a valid copy of win7 or 8 to win 10, but just did as I did and installed win10 and joined the insider program ,then you have to remain in the insider program ,to keep using the win10 you are using now

I would simply install either 8.1 or 7sp1. Make sure it's activated and it has all of the updates from MS. Then do the upgrade from the thread I quoted. It might be a bit more work but it's a sure way to make this process work.

For this pc I would need to buy Win 7 or 8.1 as I don't have a spare license, so I may as well buy Win 10 for the same price. Many thanks for your help though, it is much clearer to me now!

you could stay in the insider program and keep using win10 until it ends when ever that is ,I'm doing it, just to see what happens in the end, and how long it goes
