How Determine "Real" 10240 from Insider 10240?

A Win 8.1 machine I built just last week already got the update notice from MS, and successfully downloaded and installed the official release.

Meanwhile, another machine that's been running Insider previews for months has yet to receive the notification. I understand it's a gradual rollout process, so I'm fine with that.

But both of them show as being 10240.

I have a few machines, and keeping track of them might be a bit of a hassle. How can I tell which machines have the officially-released Windows 10? I don't want to have a sudden surprise in October if one or more of them suddenly cease to function.

Thank you. The scripting host on both machines reports "The machine is permanently activated". Could this have happened behind my back?!

Did you upgrade from an activated Windows to a Windows 10 TP in that machine, to 10240? (not using the trial key) if yes, then it makes sense. AFAIK 10240 build is the same as the retail (no differences) I even installed it on top of Windows 8.1 and no issues :)

    Yes.

The machine was originally running 8.1 and went through the various preview builds up to and including 10240. What you say makes sense - which of course doesn't always work with Microsoft!

    Appreciate the clarification.
