Microsoft's price seems a little steep to be serious and most people, I hope will hesitate long enough to find VLC. I've used it for my computer for DVDs, my only mistake was not re-installing it after the upgrade, mine was an older version, it kind of messed up its ability to play DVDs, crashed and messed up my lovely error free Reliability Monitor history line. All fixed now. :)

i recieved it during the upgrade but lost it after doing a clean install.
it's free... you just need to know how to find it.
it's cheap but nice to have OEM software.
and it integrates into Windows and can be set for Autoplay options.

For a long time DVD playback licenses along cost around $10 per device, and there's no upper cap on volume purchases from the distribute. In that sense $15 is reasonable, but I do believe the price per license has dropped to $2 and bluray/dvd/cd bundle licenses are only $10, Meaning that Microsoft could've charges $5 for DVD and $15 for bluray.

    How to get player app
Only if your installation qualifies for Media Center.

All my retired Windows 7 Ultimate licenses qualify me, but I upgraded from Windows 8.1 which didn't have it.

I had Win 7 Pro with WMC, but haven't gotten the Windows DVD Player on my upgraded 10 system yet.

I solved that problem by downloading VLC. I had it in 7, but it and all the other programs were wiped out in "Reset my PC".

Downloaded it again last night, and it works better than I remembered.

Through Googling I found a free blu ray player that works in Windows 10 and it even plays Disney blu ray disks.

Do a Google search for Leawo Blu-ray Player.

According to one blog, it use to be a pay program but now the company website is offering it for free.
I finally got around to trying it today. Worked great playing my Doctor Who blu ray disk.
