That reminds me of a friend of mine, few years (maybe 10) he was trying to convince me that he'll never need more than 10CDs, ever. Ended up with over 970 DVDs, movies and music and is in the process of buying second hand, cheap HDDs and is still ripping CDs/DVDs and backing them up on those HDDs.
Now he has a stack of HDDs of different sizes about same size as he's CD/DVD collection was.

hold on hause, my asus (G751JY) laptop did to, but i still put a ssd in the optical drive bay. in fact, i have four ssd's in my computer, now. there is one in the optical drive bay, a 256g samsung, one in bay two, a 500g crucial, and two in drive bay one, the first is a 1tb 840 evo and the last one is the fastest thing on the planet right now, a sm951 samsung pcie 3 x4 500g. so never count out using the optical bay for a ssd. although it's a lot slower port , it's still faster than any hdd, and gives me a lot more function than an optical drive, which i almost never use. i still have my blueray writer, but i rarely ever throw it in there. i can hook it up as an external if i need to, but just never seem to have a need for dvd's or bd's. i travel a lot, and dvd's and bd's are heavy.
I don't really need a third SSD. If I want more storage room I'll just put in a bigger SSD for the data drive and reuse the one that's in there now somewhere else. That's what works for me. :)

Just like Fusion power has only been "a decade away" (for the last ~60 years).
But don't despair. When it finally gets here it will be "too cheap to meter." Ha ha

    Frost Click & Bandcamp

If downloads of FLACs were available I would by them. I get some CD's from Amazon and use the "free" MP3 download until the CD arrives.
    Have you checked out Bandcamp?

There is often free legal music available on that site, in multiple formats including FLAC.
I normally visit it via FrostClick.

    Hi folks

    Don't remove all your old HDD's / SSD's.

You can AGGREGATE these into a larger STORAGE SPACES (facility been available since Windows 8). Unlike RAID you can aggregate DIFFERENT CAPACITY HDD's into a storage space.

OK get new drives if you need them but don't throw away your older 250 - 500 GB drives just because you think they aren't large enough.

For "Static data" (email / office apps / multi-media etc.) you don't need to use SSD's or mega fast drives.

Good quality FLAC Classical music available for purchase from here

    Purchasing music to download

Of course one can try the other "Unofficial" sites -- there doesn't seem to be the same problems with people trying to stop downloading Classical music on Kat or "The Bay" -- but that's up to you.

With cheap storage available why would I want compressed music of whatever type -- not worth it unless you walk around "Zombified" with those HIDEOUS cheap ear buds where the unfortunate people around the wearer hears more noise than the person actually using the phones.

Much prefer using discs to install Windows. I just burn the iso and I'm good. USB is painfully slow for me. Not to mention, I'd rather just pop a disc in than load it on the usb drive.

    Hi there.

Can't understand why a USB install would be painfully slow -- Simple Physics should tell you that a ROTATING piece of media will always be slower at any sensible speed than Solid state media with no moving parts in it.

Even the POOREST quality USB stick will be a ;ot faster than a DVD. Create the install from an ISO image using RUFUS.

The only exception could be if you've still got some hideously overloaded USB ports (probably using an unpowered Hub) which is still running USB version 1 -- I think any computer made in the last 12 - 15 years will be using USB2 as a minimum. USB2 was released in 2000 so unless your machine is REALLY old it will certainly have USB 2 ports.

    Cheers

Installing from USB2 does seem slow these days, but to be honest, I don't even have an optical drive in my main PC. I put off buying one when I was building the machine and then there never was a need for it. That said, I always install a new OS on a PC that's disconnected from the Internet. Therefore I do need a physical media. I don't care whether it's a USB stick or a SD card, whether it comes by mail or by download, but I absolutely refuse to install the new OS while connected to any network.
