@Rocky was the person I was thinking of! and he answered! Thanks Rocky!

I think, if you try this, you may just avoid all these other things you are trying to do. (Although, I can't imagine why, if you have Pro, you would prefer to downgrade to Home, but that's your choice.)

So go into settings>updates & security>windows update>advanced options> and select STOP INSIDER BUILDS.

Let the computer do its thing. It may reboot several times, as did Rocky's. By the time it's all done, you will be out of the insider program, and MS will have you on the W10 operating system you should be on. You said you originally upgraded from your W7 OS, so it should work fine.

Let us know how it goes.
Hey Simrick. I did just that. I stopped Insider preview after couple of restarts i am still in Windows 10 pro. Issue is MS said if user is on windows 7 home he will get windows 10 home. I moved from windows 7 home so to make my windows 10 free i need to be on home not pro. I would keep Windows 10 pro if i am given option. I don't want any notification later saying that Windows 10 pro is not valid and have to reinstall Windows 7 home from fresh and then move to Windows 10 home.

If it was me I'd just wait and see what happens. You have a whole year before you have to do something. IMHO, your going to have to start over anyway to go to 10 Home. May as well wait and see if it stays activated. If it does you got a free bump up to Pro.

When I run setup it asks me to enter product key. I am going from pro to home. Thats how my windows 7 was home edition. If i choose to upgrade pc instead it may bypass key step. If that doesn't work i will have to restore Windows 7 and upgrade using media creation tool.

Once i restore Win 7 it will ask me to update all Windows updates. Can I only choose Sp1 and then run iso to upgrade? Don't want to install every single update.

Will try any suggestions when i am at home. Cheers.
Generally, Ronaldo, service packs (SP 1) include all the patches that were made prior to their release. So, if there were patches until June 1, 2007 (hypothetical date) and Service Pack 1 was released on June 15, all those updates are included in SP1.

Your attention to legality is honorable, Ronaldo, but in this instance, it's kind of a tossup. Do you go to all the trouble, or do you just let sleeping dogs lie? A dilemma to be sure.

Y'know, to be perfectly honest, if you can stand it, why not just rejoin the Insider Program. That way you're perfectly legal, and in the meantime, there may be some solution to this particular "not" problem.

Got I very hopeful e-mail today from MS:

When will my free upgrade arrive?

You’ve already reserved, so your free upgrade is on the way. This is the largest software upgrade event ever and we’re managing it so everyone has a great experience.

Your notification to upgrade could come as soon as a few days or in a few weeks.

In the meantime, you can always check your upgrade status in the Get Windows 10 app. Find the app by clicking on the Windows icon on your task bar.

For all pessimists about Windows 10 acceptance:
    Update on Windows 10 Upgrades

As we’ve shared, our top priority has been ensuring that everyone has a great upgrade experience, so, we are carefully rolling out Windows 10 in phases, delivering Windows 10 first to our Windows Insiders. While we now have more than 14 million devices running Windows 10, we still have many more upgrades to go before we catch up to each of you that reserved your upgrade. Rest assured we are working 24×7 to continue the upgrade process and are prioritizing the quality of your upgrade experience over anything else. We are grateful for your excitement and enthusiasm and we appreciate your patience over the days and weeks ahead as we carefully roll out Windows 10 in phases to all of you that have reserved.

Yes, but you were an insider. I believe you get to keep the Pro version, because of that. If you open an Administrative Command Prompt and type slmgr /xpr and the box pops up saying you are permanently activated, you're good to go. I wouldn't concern myself with it any longer. You can reinstall (clean install) as many times as you like/need in the future.

I agree, but I really think he'll be okay.

I think it's not necessary; I think he is all good now - out of Insider program, and permanently activated.

Here's a link that supposedly will answer many questions about the upgrade. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windo...serve_mod1_faq I just got the same email as Count Mike. I have upgraded 4 of my computers. I just wanted to wait on the others for the GWX App to see the differences.
