It is not doubt, it is quoting fact from MS.

Read here: Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool - Windows Help , you'll find the following written about doing a clean install and it asks you for a key:

    "Note

If you upgraded to Windows 10 on this PC by taking advantage of the free upgrade offer and successfully activated Windows 10 on this PC in the past, you won't have a Windows 10 product key, and you can skip the product key page by selecting the Skip button. Your PC will activate online automatically so long as the same edition of Windows 10 was successfully activated on this PC by using the free Windows 10 upgrade offer. "
But how does MS know this the machine legally upgraded to 10 before? BIOS dose not store key information. Unless MS records all your computer hardware information, including serial numbers etc. That doesn't sounds right? Or, MS just doing this!

Is there a trick to make the ISO install any version be Home or Pro? Like in Win 7 you could find and remove ei.cfg?

    MS record's everything.
They know exactly where each and every copy of 10 is and who has it.

They know all the hardware on the 'puter it is installed on. If any part is replaced, they will know it.

    No need to do that.

You can actual use the media creation tool, to choose which one you want to install. I don't know what the "N" by the second home and pro listed. You still have to upgrade first and yes the media creation tool will work for the upgrading. Make sure you choose create install media for other computers even if you are upgrading the computer you are using.

The "N" designates a European version.

You want to use a version with out the "N".

No. It's because it could be handy to get ONE DVD+R-DL do it all instead of having two separate ones for each version.
Bleh. I guess i'll have to make x64 ISOs instead of both. Can't afford DL DVDs...

I agree. The download of Media creation tool took about 4 hrs. for me ( my DSL is only 2mhz). verification of download about 1 hr. I then did a download again to create a Bootable USB Flash Drive took about the same time. NO problems yet - am satisfied so far.

Too bad that they don't even treat it like if we don't know about it!
