Insiders will get the upgrade on/beginning on the 29th and others will get it right after. Calm down.. you will get a copy.

That answer doesn't apply to the question or comment I posted. I think the insiders are using the release version of windows 10 build 10240 but Microsoft is keeping mum about it. The reason I think that is the test I did, but I could be wrong.

This was also posted in another thread, I will post my test here for reference.

    Here is what I did.
Upgraded from windows 7 sp1 to previous build, then upgrade to windows 10240 build.
Choose stop receiving the insiders build, it did one reboot
    Got the key from showkey
Then I left insider program via insider website
Remove all device except the 10240 build from my my account
Created an ISO from ESD build 10240 using Kari instructions
Created a bootable usb disk using windows 7 usb boot creator.
    Did some partitioning

Installed Windows 10 and it took the key without issue but it was a little slow checking it. It took about 30 minutes to install. It activated with no expiration date at all. I also logged into my Microsoft account. I also opted out of most privacy setting except for location for the apps.

So if the insider are already using the released version it would make since for Microsoft to start rolling out windows 10 to non-insiders on or after the 29th.

I doubt it.. MS will get Wn10 out ASAP.. From the 29th on. There is no delay that I'm aware of.
They have already said the 29th will be for the Insiders only, so that is already a delay.. They could, of course, start releasing the public downloads also. I think we will know soon enough.

One friend of mine works as an R&D engineer in an OEM told me following today:

“According to latest information from M$, there will be no RTM of Windows 10 from build 10240 and forward. It is fine if you guys would like to call this 10240 is an RTM like Windows previous did, but it’s really not anymore. The OEMs are receiving Upgrades and Updates almost the same way like all Insiders, just sometimes a little bit earlier. M$ let OEM to decide their own to install any builds 10240 forward on the new machines because Windows 10 is going to upgrade and update by itself in the future. That’s why M$ called Windows 10 is the only Windows in the future.”

I’m not 100% convinced of his comments above because there are too many stories out there about this. But we will see…

You know, Build 10240 might actually be the 'release version', but that doesn't mean that the build 10240 we Insiders got is not somehow internally flagged as an Insider build, with all the caveats that implies. I think people are making assumptions beyond their actual knowledge of how the system works now...

My sneaking suspicion is they are actually already seeding the final build to people now and will send a final small "unlock" code starting the 29th. If they want to get it in as many hands as possible starting the 29th then they'll probably follow Steam, Origin, GOG and other distributors technique of pre-installing. That way they can do a small file on release day and be done.

Could someone explain how my 10240 version was activated when I booted up to 10 after I did a clean install of 10240 and also has no expiration date listed? Remember, I left the insider program via insider website as well and deleted all but 10240 device in My Microsoft account via website. Yes, I used slmgr /dlv and /xpr No illegal method was used. It was also activated before doing verification of my Microsoft account. I also deleted all devices from my one drive as well.

That's what I'm thinking! We've got the RTM, it's just the 'baptisms' that commence on the 29th to make it official.

Is it OK for me to be using Windows 7 upgraded to build 10240 and to not be in the insider program??

    @Gary

As far as upgrading to 10240 it might work. I haven't tested that method. It should be activated and not have an expiration date but I don't know.
