Windows 10 Build 10240 for PC is now available

I have been reading different press articles some calling windows 10 10240 RTM others saying it is a Release Candidate and other saying it is neither a preview or an rtm just another build. Source google news search.

Things have changed from this morning. First boot, I think the system might have been trying to sort out
my 10,000 wallpapers. Then a registry change was made to shuffle and no more problems.

Also, I needed a small monitor, so today, I bought a 19" LED TV which does a nice job using tablet mode.
It doubles as a TV and PC monitor.
Before, I was using a 37" HDTV which was causing me to have neck pains because the screen was too large.

So, anyway, I am totally happy with 10240 now. No issues.

Others have many many problems with in-place upgrades,
keys and activation, drivers, games, freezing, bsods etc...
I think this will continue even after RTM.

Today was a turning point for me. Since using a small monitor with tablet mode,
and since I am a giant fan of immersion and metro style tiles,
and since the Windows 10 start screen now works more efficiently than in 8,
Windows 10 is where I will be at for the foreseeable future.

I have a simple question, I'd appreciate it if anyone could give me an answer :

- I've heard that it takes up to 24 hours to get upgraded to build 10240, or any other build. Does this mean that you have to use Win 10 for 24 hours, so to be singed in and using the OS, or to have it installed and sign in occasionally?

Yesterday I've performed a clean installation of the official ISO of build 10162 due to that I was having a few bugs with 10240, which I have already received and installed. I have also installed the latest INF, IME, AHCI driver and LAN driver, so I am glad I did this.

Now I am waiting for 10240 to arrive, logged in with my MS Insider account, on the Fast ring, all verified + enabled.

So, up to 24h signed in + using Win 10 TP or up to 24h installed?

I'm not using 10162 so much because I have not installed almost any program in this build, neither have I applied any tweaks. I wish to leave it untouched until 10240 will arrive.

1. it restarts slower than earlier builds with no explanation.
2. It is not friendly with 1024x600 tablets (M$ promised).
3. It doesn't work well with dual cameras.
4. It crashes some native Apps.

How do I know you are telling the truth. . .you may be a linux fan. . .:)

i just got back, and i'm still reading to catch up, but he did all upgrades on his old hdd, and then bought a new ssd, and did a clean install. so for him to have his upgrade information available for the final upgrade, he needs that older os with all of the upgrades. so i was just having him put that old drive back in, make a macrium image, and then put his ssd back in, and restore that image. that way he has the upgraded version of win 10 on his drive, and not the fresh load. or he could just use the old drive when the final update is ready, then go from there.

for all of those having some problems, there are many, many, many of us who have no problems, or very few. the only thing i could really find, after really putting it through its paces all day, is that it is slower to restart. and while it pisses me off that it is, that's something i can deal with. i don't want to deal with it, but every other os i have ever loaded had way more problems than that. so as far as i'm concerned, this is pretty close to excellent. in fact, if they do get the restart back down to 14 seconds, i will call it excellent. everything else works perfectly well.
now, that being said, i still do NOT think that this is the rtm. i think this is the FIRST rtm candidate. and i think there will be one or two others before it's all said and done. i predicted to someone on this board yesterday, that there would be a release today, and bam. and i believe that there will be a few more over the next two weeks.

i'd be a linux fan IF they had the compatibility windows does. in a skinny heartbeat.
