msa is a microsoft account. you need that, of course. but it is definitely worth putting the old drive back in. macrium is a free program you can download, and it can make a full copy of your windows ten on the old drive that you upgraded. then you take the old drive back out, and put the new ssd back in. load any copy of windows on it, and then download macrium again. once macrium is installed, just restore the image and viola, you have your upgraded windows 10 on your ssd, and it only took a few hours. where if you go your route, it could take a very long time before you ever get your windows 10 upgrade.
Couldn't you just put the new SSD back in and boot the system from a Macrium rescue disk, and skip reloading an OS altogether?

My attempts to install 10240 keep restoring to previous version. Anyone else had the problem? I just cleaned the registry and I am trying it again, for the fourth time.

Why? Once you have upgraded and activated the final version, you can clean install as many times as you like, and it will activate.
that's a good point only a couple of weeks too wait

It worked fine on three computers, but my Lenovo Yoga 2 keeps throwing out the new and restoring the old.

Maybe this question has already been answered....but, I'll ask it:
If you clean installed since the beginning, once the 29th hits and you get the final version, if it asks for a key, could you input your W7 key and it would be recognized and validated?

    It has already been verified.

The copy of windows has already been validated. I just noticed that after uploading and configuring, just when upgrade starts, I see "safe mode" in all four corners of the screen. I don't know if that is significant of anything or is not. Right now it shows copying files 53 percent, and 15 percent in the circle. Everything looks normal so far, but it did on the other unsuccessful tries also.

There is no firm answer to that yet as it still remains unclear. But I believed it's unlikely that it will work this way.

one thing I'm pretty sure is if you reinstall back to win 7 and get it fully updated, with Win 10 upgrade notification received from right of your taskbar, you can surely get the new win 10 from there.

Already found an issue, although minor; The Edge icon on the Quick Access bar turns into a blank folder icon. Removing it and placing it back doesn't help.

    Attachment 24582
Oddly enough the icon came back randomly when I was gone this afternoon.
