XP had stacks of built-in features, functions and tools that were removed in later versions (like a Context Menu editor).

To do the same things in newer versions of Windows you have to hack the Registry, similar to having to hack config files in Linux.

I skipped XP. 98SE to 7. Stacks of tools? Like what other than the Context Menu editor?

Well apparently you didn't get the message earlier that it wasn't Steve Forbes who wrote that piece for sure! Forbes generally keeps a very objective impartial look at things while this other guy seems to be the clown of the moment.

I would not use XP if there was a service pack 20 for it. It is garbage.
Just figuring that one out? I knew XP was garbage after running it for months when one error after another would show up! I ended up seeing a 98SE dual boot on the next build before the companies dropped all drivers for newer boards to come. I then was stuck with XP Only until 2005 when we knew what came next! This time however the older is the one I want to hang onto in a very large contrast since it was ready to go in beta form practically as far as the bugs having been worked out before it reached W7 RTM! SP1 came and yet no SP2 still shows it was a winner from the get go! And now we ponder about 10.

    .
I could figure that one out myself. And I was refereeing to the guy that wrote the blog and not Steve Forbes. Honesty I haven't read one thing Steve Forbes has ever written.

Actually Forbes does quite well. I see his stuff on other things not pc related however that are written quite well and in a positive manner. This other bozo however we can agree about is way off base apparently with how he presents things.

    A Suggestion...

People!... If you are suspicious of the intent of MS, and you have every right to be thus, and their release of Windows 10. And if you are sure that they are only out to get your money, then DON'T get windows 10. If you prefer to wait until all the bugs are ironed out. Then simply wait. No one is forcing you to take the freebie. Or as you might see it, take the poisoned bait. If it proves that you were correct, then you can tell everyone you spotted the scam way before the early adopters.

Skepticism is a great quality, and all that. And if that is your main guiding dictum in life, then knock yourself out, as we used to say in the old days. No one should judge. I, for one, am willing to give MS a chance. I've used all their Windows on all my machines over the years. So... I'm in for the long haul.

Sorry! Reggie777 I'm a bit bolder in going for the gusto in finding out just what is up! I doubt anyone will be bumping heads against walls if they are prepared and can easily restore things back the way they were if they decide to bail out on 10. Besides my second OS drive here has now become a bit lonely after cleaning off the pending OS and system image partitions while waiting to decided on which OS would go there!

    My bad.
I should have written "features, functions and tools".

Going from Legacy right into 7 suggests that some old boat anchor pc was kept alive all those years since nothing after 2004 as far as MBs, video and sound cards, and everything else note lacked any driver support for the 9x family. Some were still seeing some things for ME however due to being the immediate predacessor to XP as well as 2000,, 2000 Pro had been.
