    Hello,

I completely agree with you. I come straight from Windows 7 Home Premium. It is only now that I am trying to perceive the usefulness and the usability of the Windows Applications. I think I like them. But I agree that the Mail app needs improvement and also to make the Live tile work = to show something.

Personally, I am more happy for the virtual desktops because I can always use Outlook 2013 or 2016 (desktop) and have it open and running on a virtual desktop all the time. But IF they will make the Mail app to function as it is supposed to, then I will use that one to check and read my e-mails. When it comes to composing a new message, Outlook desktop is the only way for me.
I hope M$ is not just making a "Mail" there in Windows 10 like it did before. We might be again disappointed!

At least something close or better than Outlook Express & Windows Live Mail! The way it handles multiple accounts is way UNACCEPTABLE!

Yes of course, sorry my bad. Save as pic.reg then double click to import into registry, yes twice and viola it works. ....

Now I am having problems with update. It downloads the file and then starts to install and then I get this message:

    Code:
There were problems installing some updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help:

Definition Update for Windows Defender = KB2267602 - Error 0x80070643
Never had problems before. This is starting to tick me off tonight and its midnight already and I accomplished nothing. I think I might need to shut this crap off and go watch a movie or something on a working stable O/S
I would let the computer sit and it will try installing the definitions again. It probably will succeed, mine just did. You could go to control panel, search for installed updates, and see if you have one that continually fails. If so, you could try the MS Fixit
How do I reset Windows Update components?

Does anyone here have any experience with upgrading a W7 system which was using Windows Live Mail? I need to know if all will be lost...if I need to migrate to something else before upgrading...thanks.

No, all messages in Live Mail will be retained as long as you put in the folders of active sync accounts. nothing will be lost except local folders.

Just like you access on the web.

If you have local folders, create sync folders and move messages to sync folders. after you reinstall OS, download them all from Live!!

Go Logon you web account. Anything there will be retained unless you delete it. So simply put everything to the web=active folders of your Windows Live Mail, then they will be there for you.

For a clean install, of course, you need to reinstall Windows Live Mail after upgrading the OS. Then, setup and download accordingly.

If you upgrade directly from W7, Windows Live Mail will be there for you like before! Include the local folders.

Thanks for the links, yea I'll give it a rest and do a fresh again clean install tomorrow since i will be bored and go from there. I already had 3 doubles of JD after I shutdown W10 at 12:14am so I'm relaxing it out and going to bed soon. Enough frustration for one day.

STEVAE, I have already resolved the "A program is preventing your computer from shutting down" issue, I have posted this some time yesterday, sorry I cannot go back in this thread and search for the post. Anyway, thank you, and here is how I have these keys set in my Registry. Do you agree with these values? In any case, It does not show this message at shut down or restart anymore.

When it comes to the Photo Viewer it works fine on my system, too. I can preview .jpg and .png.
it's good that it's working, BUT using values below 2000 has been warned to cause many problems, so if you leave values like "hungapptimeout" at only 1000, you take a chance on having serious problems crop up on you. so you do that at your own risk. just so you know. i just want to make sure you understand. any of the four values i gave you, should be set NO LOWER than 2000.

    Don't you need mail to?
    1. One click to sync all Accounts.
    2. Drag and place message from one Account to another.
    3. Display all Accounts and folders in one pane.

Or, maybe I'm asking too much?
well, the one click to sync all accounts could be cool. but i definitely do not want my gmail mixed up with my yahoo mail. and i hate outlook, so don't want that at all. but really, i am happy with the way it works right now. i have no real problems with the mail app. however, as to the question of you asking for too much, i don't think so. just because i don't need it, doesn't mean it isn't a good idea. i think you should always ask for whatever floats your boat, and hope they integrate it. i'm all for a system being the most customizable and the most usable it can be for all, not just one, even if that one is me. for me, windows should aspire to the versatility and unlimited power of adobe's photoshop. even most of the experts on photoshop say that they only really know how to use about 30% of what the program can actually do. there is alllllllllways more to learn. and windows should aspire to that kind of functionality and versatility. so go for yours! good luck.

Ah okay, I see. Thank you :)

Anyway, I will apply all these Registry changes again on the leaked build 10176 Enterprise that I have just installed out of boredom. Because I am getting the same "preventing from shutdown / restart" on this one, too. Of course, I realize that this is a leaked one and I am not expecting anything from it but it won't hurt me trying it out. I will report my impressions about this one on the respective thread.
