Only during both sometinmes which isn't at all unusual or (usually ) prolonged here but starting the process either way is normal most of the time . OTOH a fix couldn't hurt for occasional prolonged shut down and start processing can't hurt either as long as it doesent compramise data protection .
these are just registry adjustments, and they will not compromise data protection.

Making your win 10 close faster:

WaitToKillAppTimeout - Specify for Shutdown in Windows

    1. Press the win+ R keys to open the Run dialog, type regedit, and click/tap on OK.

    2. If prompted by UAC, then click/tap on Yes.

    3. In regedit, navigate to the location below.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

    4. In the right pane of Desktop, double/click tap on the WaitToKillAppTimeout string value to modify it.
    Take Note:
If you do not have a WaitToKillAppTimeout string value, then right click or press and hold on an empty space in the right pane of Desktop, click/tap on New and String Value, type WaitToKillAppTimeout for the name, and press Enter.

    5. Type in 2000 for how many milliseconds you want to have for the WaitToKillAppTimeout value, and click/tap on OK.

It is recommended to not set a value below 2000 milliseconds (2 seconds).

    6. Then, if you don’t already see the following strings, then you need to create them in the same manner that you created the one above. Right click in open space, and create strings of AutoEndTasks, HungAppTimeout, and WaitToKillServiceTimeout , and set all of their values to 2000.

    7. When finished, close Registry Editor and restart the PC to apply.

    THEN:

Shut Down -Speed Up - Windows 7 Help Forums

Go back to Run/regedit and click on
    HKey_Local_Machine/System/CurrentControlSet/Control

In the right hand window find WaitToKillService, right click and set value to 2000.
    Close and restart the machine.

i have an extremely fast machine. but with each successive win 10 build, the restart times have gotten slower and slower. so this techn. helps with keeping the restart or shut down times faster.

Was just setting here reading all the post, and a thought came to me. . .what is so important about the speed of a computer's shutdown. For me once I tell my computer to shutdown I am already walking away to my next adventure, thus the amount of time it takes to shut down is not all that important. . .:)

It's pretty important on a dual boot drive for some of us

Upgraded a laptop and two desktops. No issues here at all. RTM must be really really close

I installed the latest Windows 10 - 10166 and I was surprised that Outlook 2016 wanted me to activate, which I did, and then activate again, and again and again. Guess the MS teams need to roll up their sleeves some more.

I found the repair option and that seems to have worked. I only needed to activate one more time.

The Office product version I am using is 16.0.4229.1002.

    Thanks.
It's good that you're finally activated once more. And now for the strange part . . .

I also have Office 365 Build 4229.1002. Windows Update installed Build 10166. Once the installation was finished, I immediately opened Outlook and it opened! It did not require me to reactivate! On top of that, my Office 365 icons were all intact!

IOW, for the first time since Build 10130, a Windows 10 update to a new build did nothing to upset my apple cart! How cool is that!?!

Cool worked just like you wrote..I had to create a couple of strings and set the values way cool ur way !

When ever I type Winkey + R ... Regedit ,CMD and Powershell are always there maybe because I like to fool around under the hood to much ☻☻

That being said 10166 is looking pretty decnt comared to some of builds a while back aside from the usual occasional instability in the UI apps which seems less frequent now and ofc the stupid task bar web search feature or whatever that sould have an on [off ] toggle or tick so you can just use local task bar search which could work better also

Request: Anyone got a reliable link for 10166 x86 ESD or ISO? Preferable not a Torrent!
