OK, I have no idea what the hell happened. I was fine all the way up until 10162. After I upgraded to 10166 my Windows Store was broken, half my apps didn't work and I had a whole bunch of other errors and couldn't even open photos anymore. Not even with Windows Photo Viewer.

So I tried a reset repair and it didn't fix anything, made things worse all it did was remove my programs. So then I said screw it, I did a fresh ISO install of 10166 and see if that would fix things, OS seems to be OK but the same thing I wasn't able to open anything using Windows Photo Viewer for some unknown reason, I have no idea why.

I just did a search on reddit and apparently I am not the only one that experienced this problem, it has been posted from a bunch of other users as well ....

[Build 10162] Can't open images with the desktop Windows Photo Viewer. Is it working for anyone else? (self.Windows10)

If I try to open an image (right click> Open with> Windows Photo Viewer) it goes into print mode.

    This was the answer:
i had this problem because photoviewer was missing the "[open]" action in the registry for some reason, i merged this from a different PC and it started working:
Apparently some code from the registry was deleted for whatever reason, I have no idea why this happened to me because I did a clean install and it stopped working, so I had to open NOTEPAD and past this code and save it as pic.reg. As soon as I did that, Photo Viewer started working again, so I have no idea if this is some sort of BUG or what. It's really tripping me out. I got it working again, but here is the code if anyone runs into this stupid problem.

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

     [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Applications\photoviewer.dll]

     [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Applications\photoviewer.dll\shell]

     [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Applications\photoviewer.dll\shell\open]

Is anyone still able to open .jpg files and .png files using Windows Photo Viewer on this latest build? I just did a clean install to 10166 and it is not letting me, says this APP cannot be run on this PC. I can only use photos app to open .jpg and .png files. What is going on?? Can someone help me out here? I want to use Windows Photo Viewer to view my pictures but its not letting me, anyone???
ahhhh the hell with it. i put it back on and figured it out for ya. just follow the steps below:

    1. Right click on the photo. 2. Click on Properties.

    3. Click change.

    4. Select Windows Photo viewer.

    5. Click OK.

after doing these steps my photos opened in photo viewer just fine. let me know if this helps.

Yea, I'm with with. 10162 was more stable and working for me. 10166 turned my computer into shits. I have no idea why. I just had to post a reg hack above to get my photo viewer to work again for some reason. I haven't had startup sound since 10159 after following all the steps, I should have never went 10166 fast ring, should have left it at 10162, I had no issues with that build. This one is much more buggier for me. I'm with you on that one bud.

    - Screwed up my photo app with Windows Photo Viewer (had to use reg hack) see above
    - Windows update is not working now .... I'm looking for posts around here how to reset Windows Update, its giving me an error message now, Windows update stopped working for me. Anyone can throw a fast link to the fix Windows Update problem thread?

    Thanks.

Sorry, my friend, don't count me in! Except syncing Mail messages in folders, no major bugs, based on usable point of view!

Why not consider a reset or reinstall clean?

true, he can just reload the iso for 10162, or 10166. and syncing mail messages works for me, but i did just find a bug, as i can't get the screen saver to work at all. so there ya go. my first bug. i have put it through it's paces, but didn't notice this until just now. sleep works just fine, but screen saver, not at all.

well, then i feel very lucky. as i read sooooooooo many problems that others are having, to only have a screen saver problem is a very good thing indeed.
