ok, so for those who want to have colored title bars, just follow the steps below. i have done it, and it is working perfectly. i have mine set to change color with the accent colors of the background, and i have my backgrounds set to change every minute with a different pic. so i never get bored with the colors. if you have any questions, please feel free to ask them, and i'll do my best to help.

Step 1: Go to C:\Windows\Resources\Themes
Step 2: Copy the "aero" folder and paste it into the same Themes directory. Confirm the User Access Control request (UAC) and skip for all MSS files when prompted.

Step 3: Rename the "aero - Copy" folder to "windows" and confirm the UAC request if prompted.

Step 4: Go into the "windows" folder you just created and rename aero.msstyles to windows.msstyles. Confirm the UAC request.

Step 5: Go into the En-US folder and rename aero.msstyles.mui file to windows.msstyles.mui.

Step 6: Hit the back button twice and return to the Themes directory. Copy the aero file and place it on your desktop. Rename it to windows and open it with notepad.

Step 7: Under the [VisualStyles] section, find: Path=%ResourceDir%\Themes\Aero\Aero.msstyles
Step 8: Replace it with: Path=%ResourceDir%\Themes\windows\windows.msstyles
Step 9: Save it and then double click the file to enable colored titlebars! Go to the Settings app > Personalization > Colors and adjust your accent colors to your liking.

it adds quite a bit of color to your desktop, and gets rid of allllllll of that white.

That's all we wanna be able to do, what's wrong with that!?

I made a thread about that in Customization about 2 hours ago, but I followed Edwin's theme steps, just edited from there. Have a look here with screenshots.

When you did it like that, if you enable Combine when Taskbar is Full does the text show up black in the taskbar as well? For me it changed from white to black, can't get it to stay white, it's at black now, but I added color accents and borders. Have a look at that thread.

Ahh yep, it is staying White Edwin when you use that method above. It just changes the titlebar. However I made one that gives the Win8 borders on the side just like you had. That theme you just made, try replacing the notepad with all this code on the inside instead, you will get black text at taskbar and Win8 border boxes, if you want to have a look and tell me what you think ....

(We should post in the thread I made @ customization, otherwise when this one gets locked we will lose these steps)

It was posted on Neowin and a few other blogs a few days ago. I've been running red bars since.

How to change the title bar color in Windows 10 with a simple modification

yeah, the normal one is where you just make it whatever color you want it, and that's what it stays. but if you have a lot of nice backgrounds, and choose to run those backgrounds in a slideshow, where they change every minute or two, then every time the background changes, so do all of the accent colors, and that includes these title bars. it makes the desktop come to life, and a lot less boring than those old white title bars.

of course while this is nice, it doesn't really fix the root problem, which is having a different color title bar for active and inactive windows. that is what i am working on now.
