Hmm, I just realized that I spend more time reading posts about Win 10 than I do actually using it!

Agreed. Programs are used on computers. They are installed in C:\Program Files. Or C:\Program Files (x86).
Programs consist of an executable and support libraries.
Apps are self contained are found with 10,000 s of other worthless apps in the Windows app Store. There is nothing in the Windows app store that interest me full stop. In fact it will be uninstalled on my machines as a matter of course.
I would have repped this if I could.

Yes John, just keep checking Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update regularly and it will appear.

I will do the same. I have no use for any apps.

Cue the usual suspect(s) telling us we should stay on Windows 7.

Not in my case, Music uses about 90 MBs while Edge uses about 18 MBs for the app and 212 MBs for the background process, with just this site one tab open.

Caught up in semantics, but I'll give it a go.

.......and are vunerable to hacks, virus, worms, etc. Good tech for its day, but it's got to go. Also, it will only run on certain CPU archetecture, which makes them basically limited to towers and laptops. It is heavy on hardware resources for mobile devives such as laptops and other devices the market is demanding. These are just to name a few of the flaws.

Apps are self contained are found with 10,000 s of other worthless apps in the Windows app Store. There is nothing in the Windows app store that interest me full stop. In fact it will be uninstalled on my machines as a matter of course.
Programs aka applications aka apps is not a new term. It's been around for as long as I can remember. It actually refers to software executed by users for tasks. The term distinguishes it from system software (OS) which manages the hardware. I'm sure I'm not telling you, as an IT Pro, anything new.

I don't know if you've noticed, but the world with its markets is changing. It's been changing, well, as long as I can remember. As a retired professional builder I can attest that we don't build entirely the same way as the Romans did with stone, concrete, mortar, and ceramic tile. Archetecture is ever evolving. Same way with computing devices. A tower is indeed a device. One of the larger ones, but all the same a device.

The WinRT sand-boxed system of Modern WinRT Store apps is a much better way. In it's infancy of development really. The apps only get better with time. I suggest to give it time.

IMO this is the greatest group of features ever assembled in computing: http://www.eightforums.com/general-s...erses-7-a.html

BTW, just as in 8, the Store "app" cannot be uninstalled, however you can remove the tile in the Start menu, but not remove it in the All apps menu, although I'm sure you'll find a way to take an axe to it.

    Attachment 23355

Lastly, I feel you're better off sticking with the old tech in 7.
