Why would anyone want to use phone/tablet "Tinkertoy" Apps on a desktop PC?
Out of respect for the forum rules I cannot say what I really think about that comment. I just ask what is it in this News app I use on my Windows 10 computer several times a day which makes it "phone/tablet Tinkertoy" instead of "real program". Please explain that to me. Full screen preview showing avalable articles, opening and reading them in full HD resolution on a big screen:

The same question about the Weather App, here only showing the main view, all other content easily and fast accessed:

Or the free Excel App, which although officially named as "Excel Mobile App" runs perfectly well on a desktop computer, the word Mobile in its name only meaning that it also runs on mobile devices:

I could continue the list but let's now first wait your answer about these three. You have some mighty phones and tablets if these full-fledged desktop apps run on them in the same way they do on a normal PC!

    Agreed.

Every Window looking the same regardless of whether it's active or not is ridiculous.
It's in the same league as the idiotic disembodied menu bar on Macs (and GNOME3).

Because some of the apps are just good programs..and they are as real as any program that you might install on your PC., I use News/Games and NetFlix apps and they're great.. and far from "TInkertoy" software.

Not! Programs are native applications within the OS, Apps are loaded from the 'Cloud'.
But both are still computer programs written with a real computer language to run on a computer device. It doesn't matter where they come from.

"Apps" are not a problem but Store is, there's not much useful there (yet), Some built in Apps like weather, news etc. depend on internet to update and that may slow them down, Others like pictures, music etc are pretty basic and there are much better free replacements. Once those Apps get to work at different platforms and devices (as promised by MS). their usefulness may increase.
That I will agree with. There is a lot of dead wood and duplicate junk in the Store. How many fart apps does one need?
