HUH?? I think you got this wrong.. the upgrade will be free with no strings attached like you saying/implying.
Nono, that's what the ORIGINAL post was. But the wording change makes it sound like Final will have all the limitations of current flights, BUT will have the option to leave the Preview Program if you supply a 7/8.1 key.

When Gabe says you can "clean install", he means you can download the ISO, install it and be activated as long as you connect to your MS Account. I just clean installed 10130 on another PC...it'll be similer to that except an MS account will be required.

And yes it will have a short shelf life, as MS wants Insiders to run the latest builds.

If the TP final does not activate and will still work what is the difference. Maybe the Window 8 or 8.1 key is embedded in The BIOS but it is not in Windows 7. Microsoft would be kind of lame if they denied millions of users to test their Builds on all types of hardware for free. They cannot do this in Redmond , so they will use us to do their testing. This to me is logical.

I agree with Jeff. Lets go with what has been said not with what the past might have been.

What it "sounds" like and what it means are two different things.. let's wait and see..

Also true. If people don't mind remaining in the Tech Preview, then it's not really a problem until MS end the Tech Preview, which they won't be doing in the near future, considering that they're running Tech Previews on all their platforms ATM.

Yes,, I'll stick with the original statement for now. I don't see how you can get an upgrade from the preview to the FR without it being activated.. and yes.. you can stick with the insider program if you wish.. but you don't have to to get the FR from the preview..

But it *used* to say that in that scenario it would activate - now that wording has been specifically been taken out. If that blog hadn't mentioned activation in the first place, it wouldn't be so significant.
I don't know why they left it out. The only thing I can think of is they assumed we would know it would be activated. If you think about it, what good would it do to upgrade our preview version to the released version if it's not going to be activated.

I agree and if I go with Windows 10 I will update my Windows 7 and not the TP.

Difference is having a Win10 licence vs a Tech Preview licence.

That said, Win10 is a free upgrade (though I'm holding off if retail licenses will be non-transferrable from the initial machine)

I would bet that it's going to be activated. It would be silly to give out a free OS to insiders and not have it activated after it's installed.
That would be just as cruel as given a kid a ice cream cone and telling them they can't eat it.
