You understood correctly what I wrote. :)

(Whether I'm right or whether I'm wrong is a different matter, but those edits which Microsoft made have got to be significant, and they do change the meaning on whether we'll be able to keep running clean-installed builds as activated without a Win 7/8.x licence.)

Appears to be back where I thought it would originally end up. Not really expecting anything at this point other than the obvious free upgrade from my 8.1. It does appear that Gabe may have gotten ahead of himself a bit.

Here's the way I see it:

Those running genuine Windows 7 or 8 will receive the free upgrade with the option to save the media for clean install...



... on that machine only...



... those who are not running genuine Windows or have a new build will need to install a genuine copy first or pay for it.

I do not remember reading that users in the Insider Program will be forced to upgrade their Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 within one year. If this is the case then I will have to do some serious thinking about this.

The way I'm reading it is if you are running a preview and are signed in to your MSA you will be upgraded on the 29th for free. For anyone else to get the free upgrade to Win 10 they have to have a genuine version of Window's 7 or 8. It's still early and I haven't had my coffee yet so I could be wrong.
