Dear God, please get me off this 10130 rubbish and make the 10147 build magically appear in Windows Update this coming week. I really need it.

This was odd. I decided to re-install clean, and after the installation, Windows 10147 was already activated... Odd.
Thanks for that observation - very interesting (and perhaps not odd at all).

I've got a theory on how activation will work, and I think what you've seen does fit in.

Anyone seeing this icon / spacer in the task bar after upgrade to 10147? Hovering over it shows a tooltip saying 'projexct spartan' and clicking it gives an Explorer.EXE error stating 'invalid value for registry'.

I have tried removing all references to Spartan in the registry but the icon remains after a reboot.

After a faultless update with a M$ account, all my settings were as in my previous build.

Trying as before to change Favourites from alphabetical order to my preffered order again proved impossible as set by default.
Finally figured out how to solve this problem (not sure this is the only way to do this) by doing the following.

Open All Settings, go to System, click on Default Apps, click on Web Browser and choose Edge.
You should now be able to move all favourites where you choose on the side menu, and if you place one of them onto the Favourites Bar at the top of the list (yellow square) it will show on the horizontal bar at the top of the screen for instant switching.

Click again on the yellow square and you will have a side menu as well as a horizontal bar menu to choose from.
How will newcomers manage to sort out Favouries after updating?

Anyone have the older 'folder' icons in the navigation pane?
