After this I checked reliability history and it listed a hardware fail event, livekernelevent code ab. Anyone know what that's about? PC seems fine though

Windows Update is downloading it, but is so slow that i am getting very annoyed. Are the files big or the servers slow? any legal link to manually download them?

Could be a combination of both. I had downloaded the .cab file for manual install and it was just under 800MB.

My second weaker machine has been stuck on 'getting Windows ready' for about fifteen minutes now! Wonder if it's stuck
