Windows 8.1 Pro is a great OS IMHO. I plan to keep it and upgrade W10 over my W7 Home Premium install.
Actually I had set up both 7 and 8 in a dual boot across the two OS drives by first adding the 8 boot entry into the 7 BCD. When problems came up suddenly preventing either one from starting a tried the PC Refresh option which then put a fresh 8 install automatically. With 7 in 8's BCD the same problem appeared again until running the Disk Check tool I found numerous errors had come up on both drives..
Now for the shutdown process most of us went with one of the replacement Start menus at first sight looking for ways to get around the Metro screen at post time. And yes some complained they didn't want any "mobile OS"!
I'm in the sweat spot, I can run what ever version of Windows I want. Free upgrade or no free upgrade. I have an MSDN subscription to play with. I'll get keys for Windows 10 anyway. If you had asked me about a month ago I would have told you I'm staying with 8.1. Now, I'm not so sure. I still don't like the hybrid start menu/start screen but its at least usable (for me) now. I'm going to run 10 for a while on my daily user laptop and desktop and then decide. So far I've only be playing with the Preview now and then. Usually right after new build is released. It's come a long way.
I have a few of those MSDN keys for Win 7. Not sure how to apply them at the critical moment?
