Sorry! I couldn't help but add that in!
As I have been finding as I run all over between the MS pages and the clean install guide right in the tutorial section here as well as one for upgrading the process isn't "Tech Savay Required" but some basics with things like how many drives you have and the need to unplug anything NON OS where I DID find the $Windows~BT folder on the second storage drive and not trying to run the Media Creation tool from a separate drive! The installation files are not found in the BT BUT $Windows~WS folder found at the root of C: right below the BT folder.
As for the W10 app I clicked one more time and again see the "see report" option where it shows everything is compatible ruling any hardware issue out so far while having been concerned over the tuner card the 10 installer is simply downloading existing 7 x64bit drivers automatically and not paying any more attention to it. The restart however up until now has been stalling before ever getting to the next few steps in order to complete the upgrade suggesting the need to unplug the storage drives as well as the 7 host for the time being for the next attempt prior to receiving the reserved copy is ready notification to see I will be forced to wait for that alone.
Up until now "something" seems to have been preventing a completed upgrade by design??? or for having those other drives plugged in? Sometimes what MS calls simplifying things may actually be complicating things instead?? Tech Savay you say?!
Thing is, Night Hawk, anyone running more than one hard drive, knows where to find the $Windows~BT folder should actually be "tech-savvy" enough to run the Media Creation tool, dontcha think? I mean, really . . .
Funny you should say it, but it took me awhile to figure out where the $Windows~BT folder is because I had forgotten to write down where it was when I first learned of its existence. Takes a very Tech-Savvy person to learn how to write things down that they've learned, methinks.
Yup, and only about 10% (WAG) of them are Insiders. :) I knew that no matter what happened, that there would be a certain percentage of non-Insiders who would think Windows 10 should download and install to their computers. And, it did for a few of them. :)
All depends on your definition of tech savvy. I consider most users here as tech savvy when compared to joe average computer user. What Microsoft considers as Tech Savvy may be different though. I didn't see anything when doing the Upgrade This PC Now" option that most people couldn't understand, or that would hose up their install. pretty straight forward actually. If you went the other route and created install media then things change. Especially if you boot from said media instead of just running setup.exe from your current install. It's an option but why complicate things? Just my 2 cents for what its worth.
I don't think for a moment "any of us" actually know the full story of what the MS plans are and how things are being distributed other then finding things in a random order as far as just who has seen results so far. MS hasn't provided any direct upgrade instructions other then what you may find in a 10 blog, Insider, or MS community, MS Answers type postings.
With the Windows Updates set to automatic you would think after the mountain of security updates seen in just the last few days the upgrade for 7 would be out by now while most who have 10 on now were running 8 or 8.1 with OEM system upgrades seemingly being the first in line! MS has now changed the rule book a little it appear as to just who and when gets 10?!
As for everyone playing nicely with each other as it should be I will say this! If you already have 10 on Great! Now run it! Get familiar with it! and Share Back what you find! That isn't too hard is it? For the rest of us still waiting """BE PATIENT"""!!!
