"Your notification to upgrade could come as soon as a few days or in a few weeks."

Wow. With that, I'd suggest those wanting the update now instead of waiting for MS to "notify you when ready" is to use the procedures here: Download Windows 10

    Peace

Been there! Done that already and just got finished downloading the single factor iso for the 64bit Pro. Before I had gone with the dual 32/64 iso too big to put on anything smaller then a 16gb flash drive and allowed the MC tool to make that up as well as a second download in iso for the dual iso as well. And next for the time being I will use the 32bit MC for the 32bit iso download to run on a VM or if things work out run it on a VHD already made up and attached but lacking any OS!

Upon referring to the 10 installation tutorial I may have found one possible cause for this last fail being the storage drives were still plugged in as well as both OS drives when next I will try unplugging three of the four HDs two Sata II and a pair of S3s in an array there. That plus trying this again going back to the fresh 7 install since I just tried the upgrade on the host drive's now after 2yrs. of clutter install there see if 10 will take finally on it's own since there won't be too many background processes running which brings that factor into things a bit about too much running gumming the works up a bit.

Download Windows 10 is only recommended for tech-savvy users. I guess if things don't go as planned, you are not tech-savvy and it is your own fault for not waiting. I downloaded it and upgraded my laptop, it was an all day job and yes I needed to be very tech-savvy, resizing hidden partitions, editing the registry, etc.

I would like to know what the hold up is, it seem Windows Update has downloaded everything it needs. Why is it just sitting there in that hidden Windows BT folder?

If you use the "Upgrade This PC Now" option, there is no resizing partitions or registry edits. Windows does all that in the background. If you boot from the install media, then yes you have other options. Even then there is no registry edit required? I've never had to edit the registry on or after a Windows install or upgrade. Not sure what you did to have to do that?

There is absolutely no reason to tell members that the Download page is only recommended for tech-savvy users. There is nothing on that page that indicates its for any purpose other than to allow consumers to install or reinstall Windows 10.

If you need to install or reinstall Windows 10, you can use the tools on this page to create your own installation media using either a USB flash drive or a DVD.
I have read the full page, including expanding it for instructions, which, by the way, are well written and should not lead anyone astray.

I don't understand why you had such a problem, but when I (and many others here) downloaded the Media Creation Tool and ran it, I was presented with two options: Upgrade this PC and Create Installation Media . . . Since my purpose was to upgrade Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, I chose the first option and within a couple of hours, I had a working Windows 10 without any problems. Every program I had installed still works; it even failed to break Office 365 this time!

And last, but not least, I have been creating ISOs from Install.ESD for months, and as far as I can see, the Media Creation Tool is pretty much the same as what I've been creating for all of those months and works pretty much the same.

By all means, report your problems, but be careful with blanket statements such as you made above. Such statements are not a help to forum members; they tend to discourage, and we don't want to do that.

People, I got the email as well. The following is a quote from it. That Microsoft saying it.

Absolutely can’t wait? You have a couple of options to get your upgrade sooner:
    1. Visit a Microsoft Store for free upgrade services.
    2. Use the Media Creation Tool to install immediately on one or more devices (recommended for tech-savvy users only).

I got no such email, Groze. Maybe they already know I didn't need it?

Bottom line is that there is no recommendation for tech-savvy users on that site.

I think that a nice way Microsoft put it for people who don't know much about computers.
