Microsoft has started advertising Windows 10 to users of Windows 7 and 8 with the window that you see above. First noted by a user on Reddit, this window is now being reported by multiple users that Microsoft is allowing them to reserve a copy of the OS for free.

This is not a surprise, the company made it clear that they would be pushing this OS aggressively, especially since it is a free upgrade for anyone with a valid Windows 7 or 8 license (excluding corporations). While it is not exactly clear why only some are seeing this dialog, expect it to roll out to everyone in the very near future.

That is a hilarious marketing tactic!
Reserve your free copy..., reserve before they're sold out?!
Yet they want 1 billion installs within 2-3 years?!
    Better get busy!!!

I got my notice and it won't go away. It is in my task bar. On reboot (Win 7 Ultimate) it pops up again. Not a big deal but I may not want it there all the time. I haven't tried many options yet to get rid of it.

Edit: I went into the task bar properties and was able to hide it but it is part of the task bar entries now.

Just found it in my task bar when I booted into 8.1. Makes you think, based on the info, that 10 will be the best thing since sliced bread...time will tell.

Apparently it came with a windows KB update. If you uninstall that should remove it. Not sure if it would affect your "reservation" though.

I have the notice on my computer. I'm going to wait awhile before reserving Windows 10.

If you want to get rid the icon just uninstall KB3035583. In the future you can reinstall it and then get your free W10. You have 1 year after the release. I reserved my copy and when W10 is released it will download to my PC and notify me that it is ready to install. I can then install when I choose or not at all.

    Windows invitation for Win10..

I noticed that I have a small windows ICON on the lower right hand side of my task bar in Win8.1. When I click on it I can send my email address that I want to reserve my upgrade to Win10. Has anyone else noticed this yet??
