    Failed Cumulative Update KB3194496

    Hi Guys,
Just came across this thread, I posted about my failed update under the Windows and Updates & Activation forum, Post 832200.
I'm just wondering if it's worth all the trouble to get this update to work at this time.
The last I heard from Microsoft was:
"Microsoft has already confirmed that it’s working on a patch that would correct Windows 10 cumulative update KB3194496 installation issues, and now the company claims that it’s very close to releasing it to users.
Details aren’t yet available, but given that the firm says development is close to the final stages, the release could take place as soon as this week, most likely in the coming days.
“We’ve been working diligently on this issue and are finalizing a clean-up script that will fix the underlying issue preventing the install of KB3194496 (Cumulative Update 14393.222) for affected users. Your patience during our research and subsequent work is greatly appreciated,” Microsoft said in a post on the Community forums.
What’s important to know, however, is that this fix might first be released to insiders, as they were also experiencing problems with the cumulative update, so retail users might have to wait a little bit longer until they receive the same patch."

    Any thoughts please?
I have tried the fix which removes XblGame with no luck.
It seems others have had luck using MediaCreationTool and the upgrade option and others have had luck deleting the contents of the C:\Windows\Softwaredistribution\Download folder but I haven't tried either of these.
So my question is, do I wait or risk trying more things and more "black screens"?
My machine is working fine without it at the moment and it seems to have stopped downloading it and I don't go checking for it anymore.
    Thanks
    Paul

So I tried that update on my failing notebook, that update still failed. Did the xbox fix mentioned earlier in the thread and the update finally worked.

    Good news!

After getting a failed KB3194496 an hour ago, I downloaded the MediaCreationTool and Upgraded my machine.
Took about 20mins with no problems and then I got another immediate update which took just 5 mins and now I seem to be fully up-to-date with KB3176936.
I hope that's the end of that!

Cool. Looking forward to playing Russian roulette with the PC again tonight. Guess there will be another round next Tuesday what with it being the traditional patch Tuesday (second tues of the month)

joking aside, this particular KB should never of seen the light of day. If issues were reported and MS just threw it down the pipe regardless then that is inexcusable. It was only in preview for 1 day before they unleashed it on the masses. Baffling decision there. I dodged problems on this one but I sympathise with all those affected probably having to waste precious spare time dealing with the fallout. At least a fix has revealed itself and most can now get on with it but it should never of come to this

It gave me two sleepless nights and two full wasted days as it stuffed up my work machine, apart from causing me no end of stress! Thank god for my weekly OS drive Reflect image!

KB3197356 Windows 10 Cumulative Update is Available (14393.223)

Microsoft seems to have released a Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB3197356 for v1607, which raises the build number to 14393.223. Right now this update is available only from the Windows Update Catalog, and not via Windows Update.
Also, the Windows 10 Update History page makes no mention of KB3197356. But the KB3197356 article has some info:

This cumulative update resolves an issue in which some sites do not load in Microsoft Edge after KB3194496 is installed. This issue occurs when a user is on a page that specifies a character encoding hint that isn’t present on the computer, and the user browses from that page to a location that uses HTTP redirection. Windows 10 updates are cumulative. Therefore, this package contains all previously released fixes.
