There is something wonky with this "update" for KB3194496. I have two different systems both repeatedly failing to have success with this.
Different hardware makes. One Dell; one HP. Thankfully I am still able to use Windows and not "bricked". The failing update reverts any changes to the status quo ante.

advice: don't rush into this. Though, I must note, I had no choice on whether or not to receive this "update".
Microsoft say they are aware of the problem but give no timescale for fixing it.

There's definitely a choice. First you have to choose to find out how not to receive it. Then you have to choose to act on what you've found. It's just that some choices aren't presented on a plate...
    There are ways to:
    - make windows notify you of a pending update
    - block all updates (and then apply them manually if you wish).

Yes, I saw this method on the Microsoft forums last night and tried it. Both of my machines that had been in an endless cycle of update/failure were updated successfully using the Media Creation Tool as you mention.

    Whew!...glad this nightmare is over!

One additional comment: Make sure you select "Get Updates" (I think that's the name...I'm going by memory) when using MCT.

Yes, this worked for me, too, finally ! Downloaded the MediaCreationTool from Microsoft and told it to upgrade my Win10 installation to the latest and it did it all automatically! (Didn't have to download a separate .iso and then afterwards let it upgrade...the first option as red5goahead says worked perfectly, first time.)

Glad that's over...settings said I had been through the failure loop *8* times!

The other solution is check and delete the XblGameSave tasks. Refer to answers.Microsoft thread for detail.

Anyone getting these Appreadiness errors (found in the event-viewer's Administrative events log) after this update? Doesn't seemed to affect the system but my system was completely error-free b4 this update.
I also got them right after the update. Something may have got corrupted when it installed. Working on it!

MS still released it for production despite they knew that this is causing problems for Insiders on RP ring. Laughable.

Neowin posted possible workaround to install this update. There are two tasks scheduled, that seems to block update.
