Clean install did not fix the sound issue. I did find the following info from MS forum and this fixed my sound issue.

    1. Select IDT High Definition Audio CODEC on Device Manager.
    2. Select Driver tab.
    3. Click Update Driver... button.
    4. Select -> Browse my computer for driver software.
    5. Select -> Let me pickup a list of device drivers on my computer.
    6. Select High Definition Audio Device (Not IDT High Def... this is important.) and click Next.
Appears Warning message, but reply Yes.
    7. ! Windows has successfully update your driver software.

    Key is step 6.
Thanks! That worked. :) I still need to do a clean install though. My start menu still doesn't work.

Try changing the audio setting from 24 bit to 16 bit from the advance tab in audio setting.
I'm going to do a clean install. If the sound doesn't work I'll try that. If it doesn't the tip from Gramps works.

Thanks Dave.. I made mine from the ESD but this is nice of you to do. :)
Same here, Jeff. Dave's is the Great Britain English version (en-gb). :) I think ours is en-us.

Clean install took care of my sound issue! I can now hear things on my desktop!

What's strange is that all through installation, I kept getting sound, but when things were finished, I didn't have sound after all!

Followed your instructions and it worked! Thanks!

Oops! Clean install didn't work after all, although I had sound during the installation! Go figure!

I followed Gramps' instructions (Post 104) and I now have sound. Yes, I tested it this time! :)

I simply updated my build to 10130 from whatever the previous official build was. It went quickly and smoothly, I am having no problems yet that I can see. Everything seems good right out of the box. Because this is my third upgrade I plan on doing a clean install on this build when I get a chance. I think that this build is stable and we are probably getting near RTM.

Braggart! :) I'm glad it went well for you. I'm OK until I find something else wrong. :)
