I would settle for dual panes so moving files about could be oh so much easier:

In W7, whenever I want to do more than basic file management I use FreeCommander.
It has tabs, dual panes, mass rename tool and a bunch of other useful features.

I spend a lot of time in File Explorer and separate File Explorer windows (and ALT TAB) works perfectly fine, so I don't really get why it's such a popular request? I certainly don't get why it would be a priority item, when I've seen more important suggestions on UserVoice? Is it tablet users who need this feature maybe?
Same reason people like tabs with their web browser I would think.

I had been a long time Total)Windows) Commander user - but I got so used to File Explorer (when learning libraries because of our IT attitude) that I don't see a reson to go back. I am not a true power user anyway...

I guess the Topic was just about to include such Features in W10 itself... maybe somebody can raise a Suggestion at W10 so they might add it.... Should not that a big issue since the parts of code for it should be already there for their other products like IE and the new browser...
I would also be happy about such a nice feature inside of the Windows Explorer.

As far as the issue of opening windows side by side is concerned, it may not matter if you had 'tabbed' file explorer or not, you would still need to snap them side by side.
By default, just open File Explorer and snap it left, then wheel click another from the taskbar and snap it right. Done!

I'd love this too, but honestly, Clover is an amazing fix. It pretty much mimics chrome's tab feature in explorer exactly. Even adds a nice bookmarks bar.

Nothing beats Total Commander, with right addons you can do practically anything with file system, bought it yeeears ago, updated for free ever since and at still works.

Unfortunately, Clover is basically dead... the author hasn't updated it in about 2 years, and there are existing issues that need to be fixed.
