It these tech articles that keep bring it up the subscription. Which may keep some people from upgrading. Those articles are trying to figure out how Microsoft going to make money on the Operating system since they are not going to release windows 11, the way they think windows 10 will become a subscription.

The articles are just blogs by some who want to just make "news". It just confuses the situation and in the long run it's not helpful to anyone.

The issue is bloggers.. they report to no one and they don't have to be accurate. They just post what they want and if it's inaccurate well.. they don't seem to care. It's about traffic for many of them and making money from that traffic via ads.

Funny thing is we have 10+ pages on this subject(not entirely but quite a bit) and MS answered this question previously. The issue with how will MS make money off of WIn10.. Cost Savings.. less code to maintain and update with one core product(Win10) and the savings will be huge. Less programmers and the ones left will have less coding and testing to perform. And trust me.. as a programmer in a former life.. reduce testing will save huge amounts of time and that adds up to big dollar savings.

Some may be missing the fact that the free upgrade is a limited time offer. After that if you want Windows 10 your going to pay for it. OEM's are still going to pay Microsoft as well to install it on new PC's they're selling to consumers. Some if not all of that cost is passed on to the consumer when they buy the PC. Microsoft is still going to make money off of Windows every time a new PC is sold. IMHO their aim at the moment is to get as many people as possible to move from their current version of Windows to Windows 10. The limited time offer is an incentive to do that.

I understand that we have one year to get a free copy of WIn10 and yes.. MS will make money on new PC sales with WIn10.. they do with all other versions of Windows.. nothing different here. And by having people switch over they can cut back on work on Win7/Win8.1 and focus on Win10..

My comment wasn't specifically directed at you, just a general comment. Just in case there was some confusion. Yes, you know, but not everybody does. Some seem to think that because Windows is now free (for them) there will be some hidden cost involved. Microsoft is going to jump them in a dark alley and pick there pockets.

I understand.. I recall when this .. no fee.. was announced I commented that some will never believe this.. and no matter what MS or anyone says they will believe that MS is up to no good.

    Some things never change..

I hate when they do that. :) No one knows what MS is planning except those in charge at MS. Until MS releases their plans all we can do is guess.
