So this program is invite only? I just picked up an XB1 a week ago and would like to give this a shot.

Yes, invite only, as far as I can tell.

How do I sign up for the Xbox One Preview program?

The Preview program is by invitation only. If your friends are already in the program, they can invite you by using the Invite friends page in the Xbox Preview Dashboard app.

Yeah, from what I've heard from some people on Google+, it seems like they aren't even really accepting new people anyway, or at least taking a very, very long time to do so.

I'm seeing the same thing. I'm not a member myself. Not sure I want to be though? I only have the one XBOX and don't want to risk screwing up my Gold subscription, game purchases etc.
