To me it is more like this:

But I did read that if you installed an insider build that it will be able to upgrade to the release and activate.

Excellent point! Another 3-4 million "users", creating 10-12 million Outlook accounts so they can beef up their reserve supply of keys for "re-sale" on the high seas! HHmmmm.....
Sigh, I'm sure there will be some of that. For some, if they see the word "free" they have to have it even if they will never use it. On the plus side, If your system isn't legal ( for whatever reason) and you know it, this would be one way to go legal. If it turns out to be true.

Also, it would be good for those systems that are legit but not reporting as legit.

Exactly, thus my "for whatever reason comment". Some people just can't fix the glitch that caused that.

Here's a slight twist to this whole thing...

Originally I bought my Dell with 7 Home Premium, so the license was "embedded" and would auto-activate if I re-install from Dell DVD.

Then, I did an "Anytime Upgrade" to Ultimate (download), and got a separate key for that.

Last time I clean installed 7, I had to first install Home Premium, let it activate, then do Anytime Upgrade and manually enter it's key.

    All was fine.

If I go RTM booted under Ultimate key, do I keep the Home premium key? Since I own both.
If not, I'll be giving MS two paid-for keys to get one!

Time will tell........ Maybe I'll ask Gabe! Nah.......

I read insiders will still get builds to test after RTM is released, I don't how that is going to work or are they going to consider all users testers?
From past experience, Groze, what might happen is that those who've given feedback (read: filed bugs) will be invited to continue testing. The requirement for the number of feedbacks can be as few as maybe five or as many as ten or more. This is just an educated guess on my part.

If this does happen, there are a few denizens in these forums who will very likely be called on to continue testing. :) I would call some names, but I would be sure to miss a whole bunch of them and I don't want to ruffle any feathers. :) One thing I can be almost certain of is that the MVPs will be called on first.

I have given plenty of Feedback. So I hope that does help.

I have seen talk about the "key" but I have never been asked for it. Doesn't mean it's not available to a particular segment of testers, but it ain't required for me. Also, I'm not thinking a key would be produced for RTM so far in the future. :)

Read The Insiders Hub. If you are using an Insiders Build, you can upgrade directly to the final release. Also know that not every build that shows up on WU is an Insiders Build.
Gary, the Insider Hub is just jam packed with information. Would you point us to where (1) you found the info on upgrading and (2) not every build showing up on WU is an Insider build?

I would really like to verify both parts of your statement because it would make life a lot simpler for all of us if we know something is a fact and not just rumor.

In any case, if you haven't signed up to the Insider Program, now might be the time to do it. As mentioned already, I wouldn't be surprised if they close it out to new members at some point. Other wise its going to get flooded with new members trying to score a free copy of Windows 10 just because they can.
Ummm, Alpha, if they have Windows 7 or 8.x, they'll get a free copy anyway. :)
