I'm in the same boat as you, free software options do the job just as well for most people. The only way I would pay for software would be if I was a graphic designer and needed adobe products. Even so gimp is still very usable.

I really don't see people buying ms software unless they really need an advance office suite. At that point it's most likely a business write off.

On this whole cloud os, Internet speeds around the world would really have to improve before anyone would jump on board. Then you have the Sony debacle and I just don't see how they can keep our data secure.

Yes I love Spotify and Netflix and have used the cloud for some file storage, but that doesn't mean I want a cloud os.

Surely I can't be the only one who buys software, I've always bought new Versions of Windows as soon as they've come out, mostly upgrade versions for around $100. I've paid for Office 365 and paid for older versions, I've used plenty of free software and still use it, but if the software is good I tend to pay for it, which is why I've never had any problems paying for Windows.

I believe that people should be paid for their work, we can't expect everything for nothing, although it would be nice.

I hope Microsoft doesn't go with "Subscription" style activation because that's gonna be horrible and absurd.

I bought Office 2007 in 2007 for $129 (at Sams Club) - a 3 user license. I have now used it since and will still be using it for many years.

Office 365 is $100/year. That would have already cost me $800 since 2007 if that were the offering at that time plus an additional $100 for each additional year. Not a good deal.

I agree with you, but I think you should of left SAM's club out not a good example. You pay a yearly fee to shop there.
