You actually don't even need the update assist! A manual upgrade can be seen to by mounting the RS1's iso if you prefer which can help get past a few snags at times. The upgrade assistant would be useless now anyways as that was for the free promotional offer and not the paid for fresh upgrade to 10 you would be seeing at this time.

Here of course it had to be removed from the 7 side of each dual boot equation to prevent that side from being changed on the pair of desktops set up for that.

Here's an update that doesn't come as any Big Surprise at all.

Windows 10 Anniversary Update Won't Arrive Until November For Some Users

My how the tables have turned. It used to be that you couldn’t blink an eye without Microsoft shoving its Windows 10 nag screens down the throats of Windows 7 and Windows 8 users. Now that the free upgrade period to Windows 10 is over, Microsoft is taking it easy on users.

The same goes for Windows 10 users that haven’t yet been auto-updated to the Anniversary Update. When Microsoft initially launched the Windows 10 Anniversary Update in early August, it announced that the update would be handed down to users in waves. Over a month later, some Windows 10 users still haven’t been automatically upgraded to the Anniversary Update."

You can either download the ISO file or wait for Windows Update to install it.
I have already burnt the ISO file onto a DVD but am still using 1511.

You can wait and then wait and wait and wait if you haven't already received it by way of the Windows Updates function or elect to either create the media necessary if not simply download and mount the iso image to perform the upgrade type of install manually.

Personally I downloaded both the "4 in one" iso by way of the Media Creation Tool as well as go to the MS Download page and grab both the 32bit and 64bit dual edition downloads to have a complete set since I maintain multiple systems. While each is running the 64bit 10 some occasion could come up for update or repair on a 32bit machine. When the RS1 didn't show in the first day or so the answer was simply to download and manually run the upgrade install on all machines.

A couple I know saw that arrive on it's own after just having decided to see the upgrade to 10 on each of their laptops take place. So far they haven't been running into any of the freeze ups others have reported which is good for them. The report pointed to previously however does point out the MS push to get 10 on a high count higher then normally seen has resulted in being bogged down to fill the needs of this larger number of systems needing to see the updated build resulting in things getting rather drawn out over months!

The subsequent reports that came out after the 2nd of August when many had been wondering why the RS1 still hadn't appeared indicated that some would simply have to wait until November. Upon not seeing within the first few days already having planned on download of the iso images directly anyways all but a pair of 8.1 only just upgraded to 10 a week or so previously before the upgrade offer expired saw the RS1 come in on it's own in each case.

The other desktops and a now year old 10 laptop that came with 10 preinstalled were to see the manual start of the upgrade to update process with the mounting of the iso downloads. For anyone still waiting for the update at this time I would certainly advise looking into that option or end up simply waiting into November.

With the big push by MS to get everyone running 10 they underestimated what it would take to see this new larger volume of 10 users updated promptly as it has been seen in previous years with the new option of update by updated builds in contrast to releasing separate service packs. Going from 200gb to 3+tb accounts for the slower update times now being seen. That size difference is realizing the impact along with the increased percentages of newest latest version users having it's toll. With service packs in contrast being much smaller it was also much easier to see 3rd party sharing take on a bit of the overall load.

If you are worried at all about seeing the update go on I would make a full system image backup ahead of time before proceeding since eventually the restart will come on it's own anyways. System Image - Create in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

I am not worried at all because I have Windows DVDs and backups of all personal files.
