I did today a clean install of Windows 10 on my laptop because I was having issues..before I had upgraded to the windows 10 anniversary by clicking learn more, but I noticed after doing that the laptop was having issues so figured doing a clean install I would get the anniversary update like I got it on my desktop, by going to windows update..but on my laptop its still not available not sure why..says build 1511

If you were going to do a clean install of Windows 10, why would you bother installing version 1511? Why not just clean install 1607 and not have to do a later full upgrade to it?

I have a HP Stream nb with a small (32GB) SSD, 13GB free. I clicked the "Learn more" link and got the small update tool exe. It said I could not upgrade to 14393 because I need 20GB free space. I have a 64GB SD card as D:, but it did not consider that. How can I get the update?
Download the ISO file to the SD card, do a thorough cleaning of the hard drive to remove temporary files, mount the ISO file on the SD card and run setup from the virtual drive letter that will appear.

I download Virtual Clonedrive in order to update three desktops and one of three laptops by manually mounting the iso saved to a flash drive since the Redstone 1 anniversary update never came in since even the laptop with 10 preinstalled bought in January didn't even see this update arrive. Some of these builds are seen as permanently activated and not due to expire in so many months explaining why the WU won't look for the update itself.

The first two desktops already saw the Insider versions of the RS1 builds and won't look for the 8/2 update for that reason already being Redstone 1 builds. This is catching many offguard from having been involved with the Insider Program where the main difference is the type of release between the 14393 and 14393.10 numbering.

The MC Tool will still download the update's iso where you boot live for a clean install to replace the TH2 install if preferring a full clean install. If you have a large enough usb flash drive and can boot from that you could then repartition the OS 32gb or opt for the larger 64gb card to use for the OS and backup of files on the smaller 32gb instead.(to be replaced later with larger card?) Smallest drive ever run here besides microcassette drive on very old 1982 made notebook was 50mb HD on old IBM 386 museum piece! These days you will find you need a bit more drive space for the OS as well as other things.

    Hi NavyLCDR,

Are you implying one can still do a (free) clean install of 1607 after the upgrade period has expired and one has never upgraded to 1607 beforehand?

    Just curious,

If you have already done the free upgrade and gotten a digital entitlement you can do that. The 1511 DE is good for 1607. You don't have to upgrade from 1511 to 1607 to keep your digital license. I do believe that Lakerfanalways was already running Windows 10, and just decided to reinstall.

Ok, thanks. I guess I'm just a poor reader because it was not clear the OP had already upgraded to 1607 on the device in question.

    Thanks again,

Yeah the thing is..I only had the disc for Windows 10 from last July(I dont have anymore DVR discs I ran out) I had to do a clean install on my laptop before I did do the upgrade to the anniversary version by going online and upgrading it but I noticed all the issues that happened after wards, some apps no longer worked..so I did a clean install with that disc..I figured I would get the update like everything else, it did update but NO update for the anniversary version so really not sure what to do why wouldnt it be in the updates it showed up for my desktop no problem and I had also previous 1511

The way I read it, he hadn't do the upgrade from 1511 to 1607. He doesn't have too to clean install 1607. As far as I know anyway. The digital entitlement that PC already has for 1511 is also valid for 1607. Assuming you install the matching version. He just didn't have any 1607 install media on hand.
