Microsoft Removes Classic Theme Support in Windows 10 Build 10074

Mystere,

I find uac prompts annoying. In fact, I have it disabled via registry. I have been using computer since before windows 95 came out (many years).

Windows 95 no viruses, no badware,
Windows 98se One badware theme program (I actually modified the badware, so I could use the themes.)
Windows xp only that stupid shutdown virus on an emachine (Yes, I had an emachine for a year

).
Windows xp no viruses or badware , after avg and avast became to bloated, I use clamav virus with no real time protection.
Windows 7 no viruses. One badware from downloading an update to MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition from cnet and not majorgeeks.

I either had my own backup & restore program or had image programs.

See, that's my point. You assume I was talking about security. I wasn't. UAC does a lot more than just security, and most people who claim to "know what they're doing" don't understand that.

UAC is what helps many older applications run correctly and provides a great deal of the compatibility functions. UAC prevents poorly written apps from gunking up your Windows and Program files folders. UAC does so much for you that, if you just bothered to learn more about it... you would realize it's not the annoyance you think it is... and that the problems you face are easily solved by changing your behavior slightly.

Probably for the same reason that some folks object to wearing seat belts and some don't want to be told that smoking cigarettes is dangerous to their health. :) They think they're being imposed upon. :)

I've only had one or two bad things sneak up on my computer(s) since 1985, but then I use all the safety measures normally available without going overboard about it.

How does UAC prevent older applications from gunking windows 7 if you get a UAC prompt and click yes?
How does UAC help older application run correctly?

I already have a program not recommend by most people here that prompts for most registry changes.

Agreed.
I don't disable/modify it.

I helped 2 people who had problems with their Vista laptops.
On one laptop, UAC behaved exactly the way the Apple commercial suggested.
On the other, UAC behaved the way it does in every version of Windows since Vista.

It is certainly no more annoying than having to regularly enter your password in Linux.

I am constantly changing the way my Desktop looks. There is no one time setup so I am in and out of PC Settings. Painful.

Because that's the way I want to run my Personal Computer. I don't like UAC and think it's a waste of time. I believe most people as a rule simply click Yes or Ok when a UAC are you sure screen pops up so it really does little good except as an annoyance.

This is my personal opinion and this is hw I would like to run my computer. Instead I'm having to adapt to someones else's opinion of how I should run it.

NOTE: Not sure what build you are using. I jump from 98XX to 10074 and this is in build 10074.

I'm on build 10074. I thin you missed my point. I know where PC Settings, now called Settings, is located and how to get to it. My problem is I can't use it unless UAC is enabled.

It's only the people that THINK they know what they're doing that find it to be a problem, because they are constantly having trouble they don't know how to solve. And rather than learn how to solve their problem, they'd rather just complain and turn it off.

But hey, that's just my opinion.

Sorry but that is pure BS. I do know what I'm doing and I do know how to fix most problems I run into and I don't need or want UAC to do so. Please stop taking the Personal out of Personal Computing. You have your likes and dislikes just as I and others do.
