I got an email today that told me I should upgrade to 8.1 (I am running 8.0) so that I can get the Free Upgrade to W10. The rest was all marketing sparkle. No details about versions and levels like Pro/core etc..
It was a shotgun eMail ... I received it too. I was confused because I'm running 8.1 - did MS have wrong information about my machine? Did I enter the wrong version somewhere when I registered for the Insider Program or set up an MS account?

After reading about the KB required to upgrade and how to tell if the KB was installed (Search icon on Start) I realized it was a blanket eMail.

Pretty much as you said Miles, marketing sparkle. It pissed me off because I wasted time double checking my machine and I'm an active Insider (as well as being active on other MS real estate). They really need to be more selective in the marketing campaign.

Looks like Win10 is getting ready to make a full appearance soon. :)
I have just downloaded and installed the latest build (as guest under Linuxmint and VMware player) . Window Update is not even there.

I'm running mine as a primary on an SSD and the update is there.. Did you perform an update or clean install??? It could also be due to the method you're using to run build 10074.

I update 10064 to 10071 by mounting the iso while booted to 10061 then running setup.exe from it. Took about 1 and 1/2 hours to complete.

Everything working so far. Even Spartan/Edge sort of works.

I'd be surprised if they did that. Unless they close the Windows Insiders program to new members your basically giving Windows 10 to anybody that wants it. And the Pro version at that. I believe that's what the Insider program gives you. If all you have to do is sign up to the Insiders program to get Windows 10 free, why wouldn't you? Don't get me wrong, I think it would be great if they did this, I just skeptical as to it actually happening.
It could be restricted in other ways (e.g. it could be limited to people who have provided 10 pieces of feedback).

If MS did this, it would generate a "good press" for them.

Maybe there is something different about b10074.

    I'm using my W10 b10041 VM (on a Linux Mint 17.1 Host).
    I haven't experienced the issue you've mentioned.
Windows Update has always been present.

The Windows Update controls/options have been moved to the "Settings" window.
