    That's the way it's been done in Windows going back many years. I've been using my name with the city I live in as the organization, I think since about Windows 98 or maybe even before. Never used quote marks, though.l
    The quotes came along for the ride when I exported the reg entry.
    I just posted to show others where to look.

    I add it to my install media.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\OEMInformation]
    "Model"="K75DE"
    "Logo"="C:\\windows\\ASUS\\ASUSLOGO.bmp"
    "Manufacturer"="ASUSTeK Computer Inc."
    "SupportURL"="http://www.asus.com"

    The oobe.cmd file runs the oeminformation.reg file

    @echo off
    start /w regedit /s %systemroot%\setup\scripts\OEMInformation.reg
    del /F /Q %systemroot%\setup\scripts\OEMInformation.reg

    :Cleanup
    del /F /Q %systemroot%\setup\scripts\oobe.cmd

    Ya'll need to download, using the link Shawn has provided for the ISO's in the tutorials, and you can get the Windows Ten Forums versiion with your Member handle
    ***Of course this is one of the perks for the Gold members***

    All my PC's and VM's have this, regardless of Build #
    Attachment 92893

    Or just make changes in

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows N\CurrentVersion]
    "RegisteredOrganization"="Windows Ten Forums"
    "RegisteredOwner"="Cliff S"
    I added those two lines to my reg file and re ran it. It didn't change anything? licensed to shows my Microsoft ID e-mail.

    That wasn't meant to be a reg file.
    I do it manually inside of RegEdit. just delete what's at those to keys and type what ever you want

    RegisteredOrganization=Microsoft MVP
    RegisteredOwner=alphanumeric

    ...still does not answer why it happens though.. one should not have to change those settings via a hack.

    On my desktop & laptop(both th2) it had my user name Cliff S, but in my rs1 Insider VM, winver kept showing my MSA email, so I did a search on how to change it, and, I believe it was How to Geek, that showed the reg entry.

    Hmmm so MSA on Insider, clean 1607 with local should then be ok?

    Hi,

    Just wondering .. is the "Windows User" thingy related to installing with MSA or local account?
    No and it really bears no relevance to anything really.
    I guess it's just a leftover from the old days where you had to punch in keys, your name & organization etc.

    It was my bad, I added it to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\OEMInformation, it should have been Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion. I'll try it again in a bit.

    Yah, I know it's irrelevant, But humour me ... wanna figure why the user name change occurs
