Well, that should kill all hopes by some of an extension of the free upgrade offer.

    Exactly!
Six months from now, when Windows 10 is awesome and stable, some Windows 7 'diehards' will finally come out of the closet and say "Where's my free upgrade!?!?!"
I wouldn't blame MS if they told them to 'take a short walk...'

Many still think that W10 is free without regards to upgrade. I run into lots of them. Even complain that MS "tricked" them saying it's free.

Right now I think that 10 is awesome and stable and by the end of 2017 it's just going to be amazing. But there are always going to be people who will have some axe to grind against MS.

Servers are down at the moment or overloaded. Any body dumb enough to leave it to last couple of days could easily miss the boat.

Cue whinging posts thereafter - I doubt I will display much sympathy!

Well rumours are spreading that 14390 is it (and by posting this I am spreading the rumour - LOL).

Windows 10 Insider Preview build 14390 is RTM of Anniversary Update

There's still few outstanding issues left. I think they'll attempt to fix them before Aug.2nd. so I would expect one or more updates.
