I think if you are on SLOW you will stay on 10041, FAST yes 10061 you are correct. 10056 was never actually released IIRC, only leaked. So you wont get it pushed out to you
I was on fast with leaked 10056. 10061 was pushed to me and I did the upgrade. 10061 is running great with no issues. I normally do clean installs only but decided for this build to just do the upgrade. No issues. Amazing how different systems get so many different results.

Wonder if yesterday's system April update had anything to do with your results?

No not very likely. MS has said that there would be no slow ring build for 10049 because of a bug. So if they put out another build soon like this week you may miss 10061. Its not very good unless you ISO clean install anyway.
    What do you mean Charlie?

I mean if you build an ISO and do a clean install of 10061 it tends to run a bit better?

Doubtful, yesterday was when I installed and got that issue. The only other thing i'm gonna try is installing it in a VM, doing all the windows updates, then generalising it and imaging it to my laptop. If that doesn't work i have no idea what to do, which sucks, because I want to run Windows 10.

The intention of Microsoft is that all new installations of W10 on computers with W7 and W8.1 will be done by updating,
If you have a M$ account it would make the whole process of transferring all your data a doddle.

As for your opinion regarding an ISO install is better, only if you have messed about with the registry or have a compromised computer.

Others like myself have updated each issue without problem during the installation, obviously bugs have been found afterwards, but surely isn't this why M$ have released these previews is to sort out these out.
Yes, but the final release is intended to update Windows 7, or 8.x. During the betas, lots of crud and settings get left behind that mess things up, so these upgrades can be problematic. I've had a few, and clean installs work much better than upgrades from previous betas.

    You are repeating my quote

Have not experienced any remnants of either crud or settings left behind after updating in this preview and am still of the same opinion, registry alterations or a compromised computer probably cause these problems.

I've had issues after doing upgrade installs. No such issues after a clean install though. Clean install is usually a lot faster too.

    Dencal,

You seem to be the only one here that fully understands Microsoft's plans so perhaps you can clear up a question in my mind?
I build computers and I'm very concerned about how I'm going to install Win10 on new machines. Will Microsoft require me to buy Win8.1 Pro, install it on a new machine, and then upgrade it to Win10 before I sell it as a Win10 machine?
This has me very concerned so any official information that you have regarding this issue would be most appreciated.

No just buy a Windows 10 license and install that on the PC. If there is no OS on the PC you skip the upgrade process and just clean install Windows 10.
