Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 10061 now available

I was exclusively booting Windows 10 from a VHD until recently. Only real disadvantage is being unable to upgrade builds with it. Never had any issues with MBR/UEFI at all.
I understand. That's why I'm looking to boot to it. My Laptop runs Windows 8.0 and it is UEFI. It should boot W10 but for the life of me I can't get it to boot W7 VHD. Only VMWare VMs. And they are just too slow to do more than window shop. You can't really use it as your main OS.
It's not that I have anything against W8 and later. It's just that I like the Glass. I was just learning to program it when the rug got pulled out. The VMs are way too slow to even boot for testing. If I could boot W7 VHD from the boot loader then I could actually program in the environment. Especially if I used lightweight tools.
Edit: another dry hole. System booted to automatic repair screen.

After giving up with the update 10049, today started the VM and let the update do it's own thing, I'm typing this from Spartan in version 10061. I never believed it would update straight to 10061 from 10041, as it will soon be time for me to shut down it will be tomorrow before I can play with this new version, whoa, didn't like that just had a freeze up, I'm out of here for the night.

Start menu doesn't work for me AT ALL, doesn't open no matter what I do, help
I had this on an older laptop after updating from 49 to 61. I then did an ISO install and it is now fine.
But my upgrade on my main PC was fine so don't know why the difference.

I finally goy Avast Internet Security Installed and it is working great. I have turned off defender and windows firewall.
Gary, from what I've read, Windows Defender works with other AV programs. Or is that that other AV programs work with Windows Defender? At any rate, I think there are quite a few who have a regular AV and Windows Defender both installed. Why would you want to turn off the firewall?

Installed OK. Still wish they would display a spinner or movng dots to indicate the system has not crashed during the long pauses.
During latter stages cycling round the stectrum reminded me of my commodore 64 loading circa 1970's.
First test found that spartan could open a local html file when double clicked ( not in 10049) but cant drag and drop into spartan. Cant associate shtml files however but great improvement. testing in earnest to now be started.
I agree . . . we need some indication that Windows hasn't crashed while installing.
Spartan? Don't get me started! That thing is so invasive that it won't even let my PDF files alone; I try to open one and Spartan grabs the blasted thing! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Yeah, I know I can go in and set my defaults, but I shouldn't have to!

From what I have read over the years using two AV programs together is not a good idea. It was disabled by AIS anyway. Maybe with the old Defender that would be OK but this one with Windows 10 is actually a better MSE program. AIS has it's own Firewall and I do not need two of them as well

Ah, thanks for the info.
I've been running Windows with only Windows Defender and the Windows Firewall forever and so far <knock on wooden haid>, have had no problems with nasties. Choices are what it's all about. :)

almost sure but I have never used another av [all I have used for years now is defender ]with windows defenders, when you install another antivirus program windows will disable defender

Any and all security people will tell you never to run two av's at the same time. Now until Windows 10, Defender was not really an AV. In windows 7 and prior it would have been OK to run AIS and Defender just as it would be to rum MBAM. I run MBAM about once a month just to do a thorough scan. From what I have been reading most Windows 10 users are running Defender along with MBAM which is perfectly fine. My Brother in Law ran -0- AV for 5 years and never got a virus. I sorta talked him into it and he did a thorough scan and was clean. I suppose it all depends upon what sites you go to or at least it used to. I have use Avast(AIS) for many years without issue. Their firewall is great.

Gary, just a small detail you got wrong: The Defender became a full AV program in Windows 8, not first in Windows 10.
