So even though WU downloaded the Windows 10 Pro ESD to my SSD, the update process went smoothly and I am still activated!

So weird. It could be that the TenForums' ESDtoISO tool could be misreporting the OS Version in the File Info utility?

Can someone else verify if the ESD's that WU downloads show the Windows 10 Home OS Edition using Kari's/TenForum's utility?

    Thanks!

I had the same thing happen to me (NOD32 in my case) - Windows Defender icon in the tray, even though Windows Defender is turned off and its notification icon is also turned off. However, after the next reboot Windows Defender icon disappeared from the tray and everything went back to normal (or so it appears).
Fixed, I went into control panel and security and noticed Windows was reporting Avast Off, even though Avast was saying its enabled
I disabled Avast and renamed now icon has gone from next restart.

The MSDN ISO, and the one you get via the MCT, is multi edition, Home and Pro. And can install either version. Plus, you can upgrade from Home to Pro with a simple change key. No internet connection or install media required. I'd say you got the multi edition ISO, then it just version matched and installed Home.

    I would turn Defender off.
Didn't MS say they were making Defender compatible with other security programs so you would be able to run both at the same time?

Right click on the icon and click on unpin.

Yes I think they did. Something about Defender running a scan once in a while (not as frequently as if it's your only security product).

I haven't heard about this. Doesn't really make sense to have both on, does it ?

This is partly true. You still only have one AV active, but you can now run Defender "offline" to scan files much like using malwarebytes free.

I have to say that, even though the Windows 10 Update Assistant did not work on any of my computers, thanks to Computer Chicken, I was able to download the iso file I need to install, and all three computers are running without major flaws. It did take considerable time for all three computers to update. But I MADE IT! Thanks again, Computer Chicken, for pointing the way to MS iso downloads.

I finally managed to get my two desktops upgraded. Desktop number 1 that I purchased in December upgraded through Windows update with out any problems. I had a problem with desktop number two that was purchased a few years ago. It's a dual boot setup with Windows Insider and Windows RTM. the Insider did the latest update to .10 without a problem. The RTM build couldn't see the update. Every time I tried Windows update kept saying it was up to date. I finally used the update link in this thread to do the upgrade. My wife's laptop also doesn't see the update. I haven't tried my laptop yet. I'm busy trying out the upgrade on my RTM build so I'll upgrade the laptops later. :)
