    Hi,

But if you end up with the Insider flavor expect it to expire soon after if not planning to run the next build to follow!
I don't think so. What people in the Fast Ring have now actually is the same as what the rest of the world will receive on August 2nd.

It won't expire provided you have digital entitlement.
If you like run slmgr /dlv .

IOW, those on the Fast Ring that have build the ISO can go update their other machines or whatever to build 14393 without it having to be on the Fast Ring.
Later it will update to the latest 05 version.

If you join the Insider Program on Fast Ring, you effectively remain "activated" all the time as new upgrades come faster now than the expiry even in normal mid life Insider mode, since they took the decision some months back to make the Fast Ring faster. This is perfectly legal as well as far as I know.
If you join the Insider Program, right now, activation is required. There is no more free ride. If you clean install the Insider Preview on a PC that doesn't have a Digital Entitlement it won't activate. Not without entering a valid product code. Do it tomorrow and it will have to be a Windows 10 key to activate. They changed the rules when the Consumer edition became official. If you've been an insider from day one, you should be fine until you have to reinstall. I'm not sure what happens then?

I am seeing reports on other forums that they are getting messages that the free period has now ended e.g.

So, my install is stuck on : windows

    This contradicts the MS counter.

They aren't getting any messages that the free upgrade has ended. They are making a$$umptions that is what their problem is. You know you wait until the last 12 hours and then discover you have a problem on your system and whose fault is it? Microsoft's, of course.

I agree with you but in that post, there is a statement

"When I click on the Windows 10 upgrade icon, it says roughly translated "The free upgrade offer is unfortunately no longer available", must be timezones or something."

    Ultimately, hard to get sympathetic.
