Suppose just suppose that this is a deliberate ploy by M$ to annoy nitpickers.....this system restore issue....just joking.
Maybe the real reason is they don't want users to system restore as it defeats the M$ objective....remember they are monitoring live our computers in order to find bugs, and any faults will be notified.

I did install Windows 2016 Server and it up initially with Hyper-V and Remote Desktop Connection to my HP ProLiant Server running Windows Server 2016 Essentials TP5.
Booted into openSUSE Leap and from my VMware WS Windows 10 VM which installed
build 14372 I used Shared Folders to burn the Windows 10 Build 14372 ISO created using the ESD2ISO program on this forum.

Used Aoemi Backupper Bootable CD to backup the Server Partitions

Booted Windows 10 Build 14372 and activated using my Windows 8.1 key.

Right now I'm using Edge and everything is Microsoft. Bash on Ubuntu Linux Subsystem works great. Remote Desktop Connection works perfectly. I'll install Hyper-V and import 2 Hyper-V VM I created before. Install Aoemi Backupper and then start re-installing my other freeware and shareware stuff.

I may go back to the Slow Ring. It depends on how the Anniversary Edition will be delivered - does anybody have details on this?

Well the AMD CPU laptop just upgraded to 14372 and system restore was once again on. I always have it off either with a HDD or SSD as it has always been buggy. Obviously with other means of restoring. So begs the question why the opposite happens?

    Conspiracy theory coming up.

Microsoft will have three versions of Refresh,

No 1 : Refresh with data only.

No2 : Refresh with data and programs installed (SR)

    No3 : Reinstall with nothing.

    Possible.

Hyper-V would not install. I'm going to do a clean install again and try to install the Hyper-V feature first. If it does not install I will have to abandon Hyper-V on Windows 10 and use VMware and Virtualbox. I can back to Windows Server 2016 if I really want Hyper-V.

OK Editing this post. Installing Hyper-V as the first feature to install did the trick and I'm now running Hyper-V VMs Windows 2016 Server Essentials (I can "remotely" (from my Windows 10 host) log into and a Windows 10 VM.

I'll start installing other features after I create another image.

All this fuss, page after page, thread after thread about something that takes 10 - 15 seconds ONCE (I repeat: ONCE!) after each build upgrade. I find it hilarious :)
It may be hilarious to you but it is not to me. I don't give a toss about re-setting mine but I support about 20 other people's computers and I don't want to spend hours fixing something that could take 4 min with a restore.

And, oh, yes, guess how many have up to date images on hand to restore from.

So, in short, it is not about me, it is about the other supported comps that I have chosen to set restore to on.

You are supporting 20 computers all running Insider Previews? This is beta software - if you are supporting production machines, you should be using main channel. But you knew that.

Where should we put the limits?

Should Windows only be allowed to be used with local accounts because lot of users accidentally switch to MS account when downloading something from Store, and are then lost because they do not understand what happened?

Should Windows only allow user accounts without password because too many users simply forget theirs, making it difficult or impossible to use the PC?

Should we take away the user's right to create and delete user accounts because so many users seemingly manage to remove the admin account?

Should MS remove the Delete function from Windows because so many users accidentally delete important system files?

    And so on...

But the dreaded system restore is always switched on in my case? So what's happening here? I don't want it and those that do don't get it, get It?

Just popping in here to make an observation, all the time spent on this thread far exceeds the time it takes to flick the switch
    My point exactly.

If you are the "IT Guy" for whole neighborhood or extended family and they really all are so incompetent as to do this simple thing after installing or upgrading Windows, why on earth do you put them to use Insider Preview builds?

Simple maths: let's say I support 100 people and 100 PCs in my neighborhood. I upgraded them to official release of Windows 10 end of July last year, made a note to mention to each of them to turn System Restore on and managed to do it with one email. Time spent: getting the hundred addresses from my contacts and email written with illustrated instructions, maybe 20 minutes.

In November they got the TH2 version 1511 upgrade. Time needed to find the earlier email from my Sent folder: 30 seconds, time needed to edit it to cover the upgrade: 2 minutes, time needed to send it: 10 seconds.

This means that in past 11 months (yes, you read correctly: one upgrade in 11 months) I had needed less than 25 minutes to take care of this matter, to inform all 100 relatives, friends, neighbors and such about what they need to do.

It is really bad excuse to demand a feature because "my users are so stupid". Using that argument we really should remove most of the features from Windows. Passwords are too complicated to remember to quite a surprising number of users, even greater number of users have no idea what an MS account is. Delete is a dangerous function, so many systems have been totally crippled because of stupid users deleting stuff they shouldn't touch.

Whining and crying about how "I suffer because of System Restore is not on on machines I take care of" means either that you are unable to explain important stuff like that to your users, or that you shouldn't be the neighborhood IT Guy.

This is and has been a very, very sincere personal and subjective opinion of an individual member,

We should change the title of every new thread about the latest build just to remind everybody "Announcing System Restore Resetter Build XXXXX".
What we should do, as I've been saying for months and months, is have topic-specific threads over on the Insider subforum instead of racking up hundreds of random comments in the announcement thread. But every time I suggest it I pretty much get told to shut up - 'this is the way we do it'. Well, I've said it before, and I'll say it again - this is an absurd way of running a tech forum, especially a trying-to-debug-development-versions tech forum. This thread was simply announcing a new build. Great! Let's discuss who's getting it, how it's going, etc.

But when it comes to specific issues, why why why can't people be assed to go to the Insider subforum here and post a specific, clearly titled thread to discuss it? I don't get it.
