People told me I didn't know what I was talking about when I posted (on EightForums) that the point of Live Tiles was to show ads.

The point of live tiles is to show information. Unfortunately, ads are one form of information. Live tiles will let you see some info, without having to launch that App. Local weather info for example. Like just about everything else though, there are up sides and down sides to technology. You can easily turn them off, if you want though.

As far as I'm concerned, that was merely MS' excuse/justification/"marketing blurb" for why Live Tiles were introduced.

In earlier versions of Windows, if you needed some random function that wasn't built-in, you installed something to do it.

How much worse would sales of the W8 Series have been, if the MS "marketing blurb" had been, "W8 now with 24/7 Ads on your desktop."?

Still, I haven't seen any Live Tile ads in my W10IP VM, because I eliminated the Live Tiles many builds ago and they haven't returned.

My laptop with W10 Home had a bunch of Live Tiles in the Start Menu (after updating it from W7).
I got rid of them all except for the Weather Tile.

I have live tiles turned on and don't get ads. If I remember correctly there is a setting to turn ads on or off.

Same here, I have yet to see an Add in an actual live tile. I've seen some in the open App window, but not on the live tile. I think it depends on the App, and how big you make the live tile.
