The Countdown Begins: 100 Days Left to Upgrade to Windows 10 for Free
The free upgrade offer expires on July 29, 2016

If you’re planning to install Windows 10 and benefit from Microsoft’s free upgrade offer, you might want to hurry up because there are only 100 days left until the promo expires.

Microsoft launched Windows 10 on July 29, 2015, and started offering the operating system completely free of charge for those who were already running Windows 7 or 8.1. In order to make the upgrade as smooth as possible, the company is even offering the so-called “Get Windows 10” app that automatically installs on Windows 7 and 8.1 PCs, scans for compatibility issues and downloads the necessary files for the installer

I assume that after this date we will still be able to format our computers like before and skip the registration and it'll auto register. Its only when we change certain hardware that we need to get new copy of Windows.

Shouldn't be an issue for anybody that has already done the free upgrade. Your not going to lose your digital entitlement after that date. Install, click skip wen asked for a key, etc. Just like you do now. I haven't seen anything saying that will change.

    Hi there

Even if you don't want to use W10 at the moment why not get the upgrade anyway as it's free - you don't have to keep using it initially.

If you take a backup BEFORE you do the upgrade then you can restore and keep using W7/8/8.1 for as long as you like.

If you also do a CLEAN install of W10 before restoring your W7 / previous OS - back that up too (After activating it).

Then at any time in the future if you finally need to go to W10 AFTER the deadline - just restore your W10 image and you are fine.

Nothing here is ILLEGAL -- you are using a FREELY available upgrade service from Ms -- and if you want to stay with W7 nothing in the agreement prevents you from restoring a previously taken W7 / W8 / W8.1 image.

For making your images use a program like Free macrium - also boots from a USB stick. Use something like Rufus to create the bootable media from the downloaded ISO.

    Cheers
