Don't know whether this makes any difference, but I've done only update installs since th2 insider builds started, no clean installs since the original. Anyway, here is a .zip file of my Classic Shell menu settings.xml for whatever help it might be.
Thanks, buddy! I managed to get it installed by using the rename of the installer trick. Used my old XML settings I had saved, and all seems fine. Thanks again!

Not particularly crazy about the current incarnation but it'll do. But if they drop that turd and the need for me to reconfigure start, I'll be going back to full time hater.

New is always good. But I stopped using start menu for my applications. I simply just put all the shortcuts I want in a folder. That's it.

I do something similar (I use multiple folders) but then create a Desktop toolbar that turns my folders into a menu.

Don't know why MS seems to think users need a big letter "C" in front of all the apps that start with a "C" i.e. Calculator, Calendar, etc. In the present start menu, it just makes one more line you have to scroll thru.

Thats so you can quickly navigate
Press the big C and up pops the alphabet for you to select a letter, then it jumps to that letter, saves a lot of scrolling if you know the name of what you are after

So if I am going for the calendar app for example, sounds like you want me to "Press the big C" to give me the alphabet for me to select a letter, (in this case "C",) then its going to jump back to that letter and have me select Calendar.?? Seems easier to just select calendar. If I wanted XBOX, I would use the slider bar to get me to the bottom (fast without scrolling) and select XBOX. Everything is in alpha order anyways.

Just another way of doing things

If I want word i will click one of the visible letters, then select W, then select Word
with lots of things in the All Apps list i find this easier

If you prefer scrolling to W then thats fine, its just options of which you find easiest

I do agree that, with a lengthy list, the presence of letter separators can be helpful, but I would at least appreciate the ability to toggle the feature. I'm strict with the number of applications I have on my system, as I'm sure many others on this site are also, and the letters are just clutter in my eyes.

The Windows 10 Start Menu is one of the many changes that make Windows 10 head-and-shoulders above Windows 7. I hated that Windows 7 Start menu so much I never used it. I created tool bars for my groupings, so in effect, I was thinking ahead to what Windows 10 does.

I actually preferred W7's start menu. I've been operating on laptops for some time now, and I feel it can be agreed that the less scrolling necessary on a laptop, the better. W7's start menu was more condensed and showed a greater number of applications in All Programs than W10's implementation. Obviously you can argue that you simply need to type the name instead of opening All Apps, but I suppose that's a relic of my XP days. I'm a fan of W10, but I think the start menu is clunky. This new version is horrid.
