Agree with you there I also look after loads of laptops/desktop computers and have not had one single problem with any of them.
I keep BIOS and drivers updated and so far not one upgrade or update has messed anything up
Can you please share what you use to keep BIOS and drivers updated that is reputable and effective? I try to do this using Device Manager in Windows 10 , but am not comfortable using 3rd party update apps for drivers.

Yes. You chose the right one.
Windows 10 includes both the Home and Pro versions.
When you start installing, the system will pick the correct edition your computer is currently running, which, in your case, will be Home edition.

So sorry I'm so sad with this messed up situation that I'm more stupid than normal :) It is written there in my face!

Sorry to ask again but If there is no guarantee that KB3147458 will mess up again it would be better install it without any updates and that way I can avoid it right? I'm not a PRO but for me it makes more sense but I like to be careful and don't want to mess things more! So install with updates or without it?

    Also this:

Because the forum is full of noobs. Problem is caused by some other issues(rather they screw up something which they don't know) and they blame updates for it.I maintain around 30 computers in my lab and not a single computer gets an issue with the updates.
Common complaints are like updates caused the icons to auto arrange and deleted everything from the computer.
On this site, people are somewhat more technical.
I love games so this messed up PC right now is a clean gaming machine used mostly to watch Netflix and play games on Steam and I'm used to see ppl complaining about games not working with millions of strange problems that when I tried this said games I have no problems at all :)

I used to be proud to be a OK user but this time I'm the one with strange problems and most ppl are OK with it I would love to get some tips in how to avoid this if you guys can be kind enough :)

    With updates.

There ARE many users having issue with KB3147458. You are not alone.

As to "tips", I have none.
I am not an expert. I self-taught myself and as such my computer knowledge foundation is shaky.

For the BIOS I use the make of my laptop which is Toshiba
For drivers I do use a recommended third party
Which I have now used for 4-5 years with no problems
    Auslogic Driver Updater
    It is certificated by Microsoft
You do have to pay a fee for it but it is worth it in my eyes
All the BIOS on all systems I look after are from the suppliers site
    Mainly I have Toshiba

Of course! I'm downloading the updates inside the win10 installation right now but this things takes time here :)

I'm not going to complain since I'm using it for free but its a shame Microsoft did not made a patch that you could download it and fix at least some problems ppl have! Well it can't be easy to do that either so yeah.

Guess the best way to solve this problems is by doing what you guys instructed me to do :)

    Needhelpwithwin,
Use the Tech Bench link below and download the most current Windows 10 iso file
( note : I suspect your USB contains the old Win 10 version 10240. Current version is 10586 ).

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...brrWLRbagYCa0w

Make sure you select the same Win 10 edition, language and bit version.
You do NOT need to burn it to an USB or DVD right now. You can do that later.

Once the iso is downloaded > right click at it > click Mount > click Setup.exe.
    Installation will begin.
    Let it check for updates.
    No product key is required.
    Activation will be automatic.
I think trying to select the right version is tricky. I followed the link out of interest and saw the drop down to select the edition says ... Windows 10, Windows KN, Windows N, Windows Single Language. Say I wanted to do a repair install, what would I choose if my current version is Windows 10 Home 64-bit and I am based in England?

EDIT - ignore that, working my way through the thread I saw you answered that the first one ... Windows 10 should be selected
