I still prefer Classic Shell, at least for desktops/laptops. Is it so difficult to offer both?

Depends on the Redmond WA. folks but maybe a 3rd party app or Windows Power shell CMD ?

The Calendar tile changed for me a couple of weeks back. Its not like in post #1, it just has a big 'Wednesday 6' on it. I didn't do anything to alter it. I assumed it changed with an update.

So let me get this right, they have changed the start menu by hiding documents, download, music, pictures etc and brought the all apps lists into focus. So now if I want to access those links I have to right to the top and use the hamburger menu??

Not necessarily, they show in icon form only at first click.
