There's also StartIsBack++ and Start Menu 10 -- but I don't know if either of these is free.

I have been using Classic shell since I started on Windows insider Builds. If not for it I would still be on windows 7. I never used Win 8 or 8.1 so I totally did not care for the start menu (Default)

I've been using the stock W10 start menu on principle. But I don't like it. I am thinking of going to Start10. I used Start8 and miss it. There are so many things MS didn't bring back from the W7 start menu. Recent documents is one thing missing. Recently used programs has a fixed number of items. Recently added programs has only one item. MS brought back the start menu, but crippled it IMHO.

Again, I'm using the stock start menu on principle. But my patience is wearing thin...

    Hi there

Can't see the point of it -- the old Menu looks tired, dated and inflexible. W10's menu is a bit more customiseable and the SEARCH is infinitely better.

For those that don't like tiles - you can remove those at will from the menu and / or pin them directly to the desktop.

3rd party developers on the whole should be encouraged as they often produce decent software which is deficient or missing in the original OS as well as providing all sorts of useful applications - but I think in this case there's NO NEED for this particular piece of software on W10. I for one am quite happy with W10's menu.

I agree for people who were using W8 / W8.1 and wanted a start menu -- OK - but it's now redundant for W10.

    Cheers

Third party start menu,s?. Some people are never satisfied.
Microsoft has taken note of millions of opinions thanks to the insider programme.
I can only assume certain people find it difficult to accept what the majority wish for and find acceptable.
Change for some is like letting go of a comfort blanket perhaps.

I agree, Gary! Classic Shell is by far the best for me.

LOL well the old menu may be dated, but it is by far, much more functional than Windows 10 (new) menu. It has nothing to do with tiles, but the ability to be able to pin items to the menu for me. So I don't think it is redundant.

I think overall, Windows 10 at best is mediocre, unless someone has a specific need (maybe they have a pirated version) to use it, I see no reason to switch. I just lose to much, it is simply not for me, give me my windows 7 or 8 with those 3rd party menus, and I will be set til 2025.

Is this really the case , do we really know the majority find the new stuff acceptable ? There are tons of downloads but that is clearly due to 10 being free for most , if Microsoft didn't offer the free upgrade deal , do you really think 10 would be flying off the shelves and universally accepted , i don't think it would.

I don't think Microsoft thought so either , if they did they would not have offered the upgrade .
