You guys must have spectacular Internet bandwidth.

With our network speed, it would tale ~2.5 days to upload a backup OS image (27 GB) and ~12 hours to download it again.

It would be a pointless exercise trying to upload backup images of my personal files partitions (Documents, Pictures and Music).
It would take an additional ~11 days.
A backup image of my Video partition would take over a month!
When you sync your computer with OneDrive it is their servers which govern network speed and bandwidth.
The advantage having your Docs, Pictures and Music synced is you do not have them using valuable space on your hard drive.
Obviously you need to check how much free allowance your OneDrive account allows, mine being 80GB free.
When you need anything you can instantly obtain It by opening File Explorer where on OneDrive you will find everything synced as you had already saved them on your own computer....and you can do this on any computer anywhere in the world by signing into your account....and if purchasing another computer, after yours goes belly up, just sign in to your M$ account et voila, all your synced files and settings appear....a perfect safety net.

    Each to his own.

Being a simple home user, I need no more than Windows Defender and Free edition Malwarebytes.
Same setup applies to my Insider Preview laptop and my Win 10 Home RTM laptop.
    NO security issues so far.

And here I don't need to have 10 separate programs on free or not! Just the one and keeping it running is all it takes! And that is why paid for programs will often work out much better. With paid for softwares by the better companies at least you have active support available not seen with the freebies that only see newer versions come out every so often but not weekly updates sometimes even daily.

The web filtering however is the preventative side which is worth the effort far more then just the local detection after the fact. And with paid for softwares the one other thing to note is that any bugs can be reported and see fixed rather promptly in contrast to the need to wait for the next whatever. You need to weight the Pros and Cons of both there.

We're limited by ADSL and the distance from the exchange, so MS server speeds are irrelevant to us.

No chance of getting optical fibre (as long as the Conservatives are running the Australian Government).

Like I said earlier everyone thinks what they use is the best sometimes and the Ford vs Chevy augment still persists after a century or more and I've owned both of their cars and Trucks and one 99 Dodge Sport Ram P.U. the trucks were all decent IMO , the older Ford cars years ago not so much compared to the GM products I owned outside of one lame GM FWD body short timer .

Now I own a late model GMC 1500HD ext cab although newer Ford & Ram look like plenty good trucks and drive well like the last two later model GMC's I've owned /own which so far have been the most reliable for *me ( I test drove the 3 makes and a Toyota Tundra (all new) before getting my current GMC new from the dealer and also rented a narly fun Ram Hemi for a week they all seemed real decent ) but as they say YMMV .

I've got almost 70K on this GMC it's just like new still ( the best truck here so far ) and I never usually keep them over 3 yrs and I buy them outright but I might make an exception here and keep this one a while but not forever as long as it still has resale value although it can probably make 250-300K easy with the gen 6 or 7 Vortec V8 motor in it ☻☻

It's all good and my stuff outside of mbam anti exploit is free . ( AVG and mbam free & Win Defender& Win Defender or MS anti malware whatever it is )

I'm good with my current configurations on 4 PC's and 5 Win 10 OS here for now but not to inclined to lock into lifetime anything with a software ,Telco ,ISP ,Cable/ SAT TV or any similar subscription .

It's all good here I'm glad U like what you have .( I might like it to if I used it ) OTOH I haven't needed any support on any of my AV or the mbam stuff since I ditched CrApafee and you can get all that stuff on the brand forums (or maybe here) anyway and keeping them all updated is trivial outside of the idiot proof automatic Win Defender updates on this PC :)

Once again you missed the point! It's not the av vs av pitch but the look at the real world when being asked enough times on what will work regardless of who makes what! As far as the lifetime license for $120 being good on 5 machines original offer by company 5-10 pcs figure good for 10yrs. on 5 machines compared to the average $40 per 2yr. sub seen with most paid for av subscriptions equals just a bit over 10% of what the total would otherwise be for the economic look at paying out for any software.

And that still doesn't put things into the melons vs mango competition but was also looking at having effective web filtering over any basic without av program and why I never went for AVG or any other subscriptions in the past for lacking in those areas. Once VIPRE first by Sunbelt and later GFI had brought in an av software with not only a firewall option but incorporated web security in as well it was then other companies like Norton suddenly also starting to see Internet security suits as well.

As the old saying still applies "An Ouch of Prevention is worth more then a Pound of Cure"! It's wonderful that programs paid or otherwise can clean things off "After The Down Time" from some infection while investing as well as thinking in prevention goes much further! But when deciding on what to look for when out shopping around for a paid for software then you have to start looking at what each is capable of as far as avoiding down time and look at the better featured products each company is offering to take notes! GFI had been the inovator at seeing everything combined in the updated base software yet first software seeing a very light footprint compared to other av program that chomped on resources!

Soon the well known to be bloated Norton saw some changes there in a fast hurry as noted by a security specialist no longer part of Symantec who uses the free BitDefender! But then you are looking at someone who does know what exactly to watch out for on the web!

Like I said everyone probably thinks their plan is the best ( and that's fine with me) but free AVG & Avast & mbam aint bad either and I haven't had any issues with them ,Win 10 defender or paid mbam anti exploit web shields .

I know the difference between resident AV & malware scanners and RT web /mail shields & firewalls and some of the different behaviors & heuristics they may look for and some compatibility's or incompatibilities .

I started out with DOS then windows 3.0 /3.1 on a (new) 386 SX at home and Unix at work on corporate intranets well before that and I can usually spot an obviously bad web click dialog ,pop up, banner ad,re direct , link or e mail even in download bundles .

I only usually go to software direct sources for downloads not the malware geysers like download.com and Softpedia .☻☻

I get you that like what U like & the price sounds more than fair and you maybe don't get that I like what I like

ur beating a dead horse here ( nobody missed anything here ,me that is ) and the reputable paid AV suites have had Real time Web & E mail shields for eons anyway and some of them have software firewalls .

*some * modern web browsers are getting pretty good at blocking bad pages, links & re directs & sand boxing.

I only use a standard Windows user acct on the web ....at some point all this aftermarket stuff may become irrelevant anyway TBH I wouldn't go long on any of those AV /malware web shield stocks .☻☻

I can only speculate why hasn't anybody I see on the web ever heard of Viper or GFI and how they can be so good at the same time ( which probably isn't impossible ) .....but TBH I have other things I would prefer to wonder about like what's on TV & my Android Sony TV apps I might wanna watch to nite in here and if any of it is WCG ,4K or 4K HDR .

I'm well familiar with the free version of AVG having run with that for years. But the time did come several years ago when I was finding more was going to be needed which was proven correct. You see it wasn't GFI's av or AVG's or Norton's or any other company's av program but moving up from simply av to a fully loaded software that makes more sense.

As I was saying before an ouch of prevention is worth a pound of cure! If you are going to go out and pay for a software from a particular company you want to go with their top of the line as for as home users that is in order to those additional features rolled into the program. Not every av software company offers that.
